Job Title:

Principal Engineer (Architect) Responsibilities
  • Define the scope of technical programs and develop effective, high-quality solutions to complex challenges.
  • Apply technical expertise across multiple fields to resolve complex problems.
  • Incorporate advanced technical practices and complex features into problem-solving and planning.
  • Provide leadership and guidance in technical solutions and be recognized as an expert in your area.
  • Evaluate program results, prepare reports, and recommend improvements.
  • Stay informed about technological advancements and plan accordingly.
  • Develop schedules, monitor progress and budgets, and review work quality.
  • Communicate results and objectives effectively to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to technical literature through reports and publications.
  • Enhance professional expertise through leadership in technical societies.
    • Additional Duties

    Provide architectural staff augmentation, including analysis, design, coordination, specifications, and project oversight for facilities.

    Work Hours

    Up to 40 hours/week, with flexible schedules (e.g., 5/8, 4/10, 9/80). Overtime may be required.

    Qualifications

    Education & Experience:

    • Ph.D. in relevant science or engineering with 5+ years' experience, OR
    • MS with 8+ years' experience, OR
    • BS with 10+ years' experience.

    Specific for this posting:

    • Bachelor’s in Architecture with 10+ years’ recent experience in nuclear or industrial facility design.
    • Experience in facility layout, code standards (IBC, AISC, ACI, AWS, NFPA, OSHA, CFR, ABA), and tools like STAAD and Micro Station/CAD.
    • Ability to perform site walk-downs and work in construction environments.
    Other Qualifications

    Must obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance. Active clearance preferred.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Recent DOE facility experience and familiarity with SRS design processes.
    • Experience with security architecture and cost estimating.
