About this RoleThe Safety Professional
- Day Shift is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving the site safety program at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken, SC. This position supports the Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS), enforces compliance with DOE Orders, OSHA regulations, and QGS safety policies, and provides proactive safety oversight for all Day Shift field construction, maintenance, and operations activities.

CLASSIFICATION:
Exempt
- Provide day‑to‑day safety oversight and field presence for all Day Shift work activities, conducting hazard assessments, safety observations, and proactive interventions to prevent incidents and injuries.
- Support development and review of job hazard analyses (JHAs), activity hazard analyses (AHAs), and work package safety sections to ensure all hazards are identified and properly controlled before work begins.
- Conduct toolbox safety talks, pre‑job safety briefs, and safety training sessions for Day Shift field personnel; promote a strong safety culture and employee engagement in hazard recognition and reporting.
- Investigate incidents, near‑misses, and unsafe conditions; perform root‑cause analyses and develop corrective action recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Perform field safety inspections and audits; document findings, track corrective actions, and report safety performance metrics to the Site Safety Manager and project leadership.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable DOE Orders (DOE O 440.1, ISMS), OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1926 standards, and QGS EHS&S program requirements.
- Interface with DOE client safety representatives, government inspectors, and subcontractor safety personnel; support external safety oversight visits and audits.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of QGS EHS&S objectives.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of safety professional experience in a DOE, nuclear, heavy industrial, or government construction/maintenance environment.
- Working knowledge of DOE ISMS, DOE O 440.1, OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1926, and federal contractor safety requirements.
- Experience conducting JHAs, incident investigations, and root‑cause analyses.
- Strong communication, training facilitation, and documentation skills.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
- Direct Savannah River Site or DOE major facility safety experience.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) designation.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Savannah River Site access badge and pass all required background checks and DOE security requirements.
- Valid U.S. driver license.
