Summary
We are seeking a highly qualified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) with a minimum of five (5) years of field experience to support occupational health and safety programs at the Savannah River Site (SRS). This role is responsible for anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling workplace environmental hazards in a complex, high-hazard industrial and nuclear environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, field leadership, and the ability to interface with multidisciplinary teams in a regulated DOE environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments for chemical, radiological, physical, and biological hazards
- Design and implement industrial hygiene monitoring programs (air sampling, noise, heat stress, etc.)
- Interpret sampling data and recommend appropriate engineering, administrative, and PPE controls
- Support compliance with DOE, OSHA, and site-specific regulations and standards
- Develop and review technical reports, hazard assessments, and exposure profiles
- Provide field support for work planning, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and work package development
- Collaborate with safety, radiological protection, engineering, and operations teams
- Mentor junior staff and technicians in IH practices and procedures
- Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses related to occupational exposures
- Maintain calibration and proper use of IH instrumentation and equipment
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or related field
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) credential (required)
- Minimum 5+ years of industrial hygiene field experience
- Experience with exposure monitoring techniques and instrumentation
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial hygiene principles
- Ability to obtain and maintain site access and security clearance (as required)
- Experience supporting U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or nuclear facilities
- Familiarity with radiological controls and integrated safety management systems (ISMS)
- Experience in high-hazard industries (nuclear, chemical processing, heavy manufacturing)
- Professional certifications such as CSP or CHMM
- Experience with data management systems and IH software tools
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and basic document control platforms
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, and climbing on active construction sites
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in confined or elevated spaces as needed
- Visual acuity for performing inspections, reading drawings, and documenting conditions
- Reasonable accommodation provided under applicable laws
- Work performed in both office and field environments, including industrial and radiological areas
- Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- May involve walking, climbing, and working in varying environmental conditions
- Occasional extended hours or shift support based on operational needs
