Position Summary

The Work Control Planner supports the Facility Maintenance and HVAC Services contract at the Savannah River Site (SRS) by developing, coordinating, and issuing maintenance work packages that ensure safe, compliant, and efficient execution of preventative and corrective maintenance activities. This role provides technical planning support for HVAC and facility maintenance tasks, ensuring all work is properly scoped, reviewed, and documented in accordance with Liquid Waste Organization (LWO) procedures, Integrated Work Management (IWM) processes, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Take day-to-day direction from the Work Control Manager/STR and ensure planning activities align with contract requirements.
  • Perform technical reviews of maintenance work packages for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with LWO standards.
  • Conduct field walkdowns to validate work scope, identify hazards, and confirm system configurations.
  • Prepare, review, and issue corrective maintenance work requests and associated work packages.
  • Develop and issue preventative maintenance (PM) records and PM work packages for HVAC and facility systems.
  • Perform technical analysis of labor, materials, and equipment requirements; prepare detailed material take-offs, specifications, and Bills of Material.
  • Develop labor estimates and resource requirements for maintenance activities.
  • Prepare or review instructions for isolation, containment, lockout/tagout, and de-energization of affected systems in accordance with LWO procedures.
  • Ensure work packages incorporate safety requirements, hazard controls, and regulatory compliance elements.
  • Coordinate with maintenance technicians, supervisors, engineering, and safety personnel to resolve planning issues and support efficient work execution.
  • Maintain accurate records within the Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and ensure documentation supports audits, performance reporting, and configuration control.

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • High school diploma or GED/TASC/HiSET with extensive hands-on experience (or a bachelor's degree with fewer years) in work control, facility operations, or maintenance planning.
  • Working knowledge of CMMS.
  • Ability to interpret complex blueprints, schematics, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
  • Strong understanding of facility maintenance operations, HVAC systems, and work control processes.
  • Knowledge of IWM processes and industry safety standards.
  • Experience supporting safety programs, regulatory compliance, and worker protection plans.
  • Proficiency with scheduling tools, planning software, and standard office applications.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear, concise updates to supervisors, technicians, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to perform field walkdowns, identify hazards, and translate technical conditions into actionable work instructions.

Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Significant experience supporting Department of Energy operations, particularly at the SRS.
  • Background in HVAC systems, facility utilities, project controls, or industrial maintenance environments.
  • Familiarity with DOE work planning and control processes, conduct of operations, and configuration management.
  • Experience developing work packages for complex mechanical, electrical, or HVAC systems.
