About the RoleWe are recruiting for an Advisory Engineer (working title: Project Engineer) supporting Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina. This position provides staff augmentation support to Central Engineering, integrating and managing engineering activities for assigned projects in H Area, F Area, and the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility (SRPPF).
You will assist in establishing design criteria, resource forecasts, schedules, and priorities; apply project management tools and methods to assigned projects; and deliver results against cost and schedule for assigned tasks. Engineering services are performed using site processes and procedures, with programmatic guidance provided by the site.
Key Responsibilities- Provide overall engineering and design direction, leadership, and management for assigned projects and tasks.
- Integrate engineering resources for assigned projects by assisting in establishing design criteria, resource forecasts, schedules, and engineering tools for engineering tasks.
- Take responsibility for the overall management, scheduling, and priority of assigned tasks and projects, and provide administrative guidance to leads and managers.
- Manage the administration, document control, project controls, and quality engineering sections for all assigned projects through section supervisors.
- Resolve conflicts between project direction and technical direction from functional managers, and participate in department and site‑wide programmatic issue resolution and quality improvements.
- Build project teams by requesting, evaluating, and developing engineering expertise capable of achieving assigned project objectives.
- Establish baselines for design activities for all assigned projects and engineering work requests; evaluate cost and schedule variances and implement corrective actions using EVMS tools.
- Evaluate subcontractor tasks to ensure design output meets project technical, cost, and schedule objectives, and recommend subcontractor authorizations for new work and baseline changes to project managers.
- Establish each project’s scope of work, ensuring firm customer requirements are developed, and review cost accounts for procurement of engineered materials.
- Perform field walk‑downs of the job site, which may involve construction areas with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking distances over a half mile, climbing ladders to access remote areas, and dressing out in protective clothing, including environments where a respirator is required.
- Prepare and communicate clear, concise, and accurate reports, evaluations, documents, procedures, reviews, comment resolutions, and oral presentations.
- Mentor junior team members and develop their design knowledge.
Typically an advanced degree and experience: a PhD and about 15 years of experience, an MS and about 17 years of experience, or a BS and about 21 years of experience. A BS in Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer is required.

Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties; after award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments.
Preferred Qualifications- Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are preferred.
- Registered PE licensure in any state is strongly preferred.
1-year base contract with two (2) 1-year option periods. Option periods are not guaranteed and are executed at the discretion of the hiring manager.
Estimated Hours2,080 straight time + 800 overtime per year. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and is utilized at the manager’s discretion.
Work ScheduleMonday–Thursday, 6:45 AM–5:15 PM EST. This position is 100% on-site; local candidates or candidates willing to relocate at their own expense.
TravelOccasional travel may be required.
