Overview

Seeking a Fellow Engineer - Mechanical Process Design Engineer to provide support to our client in Aiken, SC
.

Responsibilities
  • Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, and use other technical resources within the company, to resolve complex problems.
  • Incorporate advanced technical practices and complex features, such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes, and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
  • Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.
  • Develop solutions to complex technical problems in fields of expertise.
  • Stay informed on technical needs within the company and technical trends in the external world.
  • Be aware of the capabilities of the work group and needs of its customers. Identify technical programs which can be carried out with little guidance and take the initiative to accomplish them.
  • Lead task teams for developing solutions to more complex problems. Prepare plans including schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks identified by management.
  • Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget, and review quality of work performed. Include research, development, testing, quality assurance requirements.
  • Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, managers, and oversight groups.
  • Prepare reports for external publication.
Primary responsibilities
  • Engineering analysis, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to:
    Process Flow;
    Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams;
    System Descriptions;
    Mechanical Equipment Lists;
    Mechanical Equipment Sizing;
    Pipe and Valve Specifications;
    Failure Analysis;
    Accident Analysis;
    Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation;
    Pipe Stress Analysis;
    Material Handling Design;
    Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews.
  • Incorporate advanced technical practices to develop solutions for a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements.
  • Engineering services shall be provided using the client processes and procedures. Programmatic guidance will be provided by the client.
Work Hours

Up to a 40-hour work week is scheduled. The client utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10’s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB). Work week excludes the client holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Design Authority Manager.

The anticipated work schedule is Mon-Thurs 6:45 am - 5:15 pm EST.

Area Security Access

Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Considered an internal expert in area of expertise. Contributes to advancing knowledge in field of expertise through various avenues such as internal and external publications and professional society presentations. Can solve complex problems in field.
  • Must demonstrate a minimum of 15 years design experience in the nuclear or process chemical industry
  • Must demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of experience working at one or more DOE facilities
  • Must demonstrate experience creating and revising documentation in one or more of the following areas:
    Process Flow;
    Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams;
    System Descriptions;
    Mechanical Equipment Lists;
    Mechanical Equipment Sizing;
    Pipe and Valve Specifications;
    Failure Analysis;
