Fellow Engineer

Duration: 1 year, with option to extend for up to 2 additional 1-year option periods

Location:

Savannah River Site, SC (100% onsite; local candidates or willing to relocate at candidate's expense)

Short Summary about Job:

Seeking a Fellow Engineer to provide senior-level mechanical/chemical engineering design support at a DOE nuclear and process chemical facility. The role involves creating and revising engineering documentation across a broad range of disciplines, performing weekly field walkdowns of active job sites, and supporting ongoing design and construction activities.

Required Qualifications

• Advanced degree and experience:
  Ph.D. and approximately 10 years' experience, OR M.S. and 12 years' experience, OR B.S. and approximately 15 years' experience
• B.S. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
• Minimum of 15 years of design experience in the nuclear or process chemical industry
• Minimum of 10 years of experience working at one or more DOE facilities
• Experience creating and revising documentation in one or more of the following areas:
  Process Flow Diagrams;
  Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams;
  System Descriptions;
  Mechanical Equipment Lists;
  Mechanical Equipment Sizing;
  Pipe and Valve Specifications;
  Failure Analysis;
  Accident Analysis;
  Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation;
  Pipe Stress Analysis;
  Material Handling Design;
  Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews
• Ability to perform weekly field walkdowns of the job site for engineering work being performed, which may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking distances of over half a mile, climbing ladders to access remote areas, and dressing out in protective clothing

Preferred Qualifications

• Active DOE clearance (L or Q) held within the past 2 years
• Previous design engineering experience at this site and working knowledge of the site's design processes and procedures
• Estimated hours: 2,080 straight-time / 800 overtime per year
• Anticipated work schedule:
  Monday–Thursday, 6:45 AM–5:15 PM (site local time)
• Interview process conducted via phone call or video conferencing
• Supported project area to be determined as needed
• Travel, if authorized, is reimbursed per the applicable travel compensation policy and must be approved by the hiring manager at least 30 days in advance
• Telework, if applicable, is approved at the hiring manager's discretion and can be revoked at any time; commuting to/from the site is not a reimbursable expense
