Purpose and Impact: DOE Savannah River Site (SRS) processes and stores nuclear materials in support of national defense and U.S. nuclear nonproliferation efforts. The site also develops and deploys technologies to improve the environment and treat solid and liquid nuclear and hazardous waste left from the Cold War. While current missions are the highest priority, SRS leadership places great importance on developing broader missions for SRS that use its unique capabilities to address critical national missions.

The Operation and Maintenance operator is Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS), as a Subcontractor to SRNS, Amentum Technology Inc. (ATI) provides telecommunications system operation and maintenance services as well as site operator services s position supports operation and maintenance program managing the voice and data services at the Savannah River site.

Work Schedule:

Essential Responsibilities: SPECIAL CIRCUIT TECHNICIAN:
Resolve problems and failure modes in the hardware and software of the switching equipment and associated, interacting subsystems in support of the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC (SRNS) O&M Telecommunication’s contract.

  • Manage and maintain Ciena 6500 optical routing / 3926 optical metro systems. Replace circuits cards to correct problems in the systems. Program and test all DS1 and DS3 database translation for various sites.
  • Maintain AVST Call Xpress voice-mail system.
  • Receive, recognize, and respond to switch maintenance messages and system alarms.
  • Provide alarm systems surveillance.
  • Analyze the maintenance messages or condition causing the alarm; correct the condition by performing or arranging for component-level repair of the system, if necessary.
  • Use exchange-based test boards to establish, locate, and repair voice and data circuit malfunctions such as shorts, opens, and unbalanced pairs.
  • Replace circuit cards to correct problems in the system, to ensure the back to normal system.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly verifications on rectifiers, inverter/converters, and batteries.
  • Run daily and weekly AMA reports.
  • Provide service order activity associated with plain old telephone service (POTS), serial hunt, and multi-line hunts.
  • Perform change verification for all telephone services and voice mail features.
  • Coordinate and problem solve Nokia SAR-8 Circuit Switch.
  • Maintain AT&T Lineage 2000 power system and battery plants for each switch room.
  • Manage and operate the Central Office operation, engineering and system design.
  • Build new circuits and conduct circuit changes as required of Work Orders (WO).
  • Work closely with SRNS Fire Protection and all other Special Services groups on site to engineer equipment for Special Services functioning.
  • Assist SRNS in designing and deploying:
    Local and area paging;
    Base and handheld radio circuits;
    Automatic selective signaling systems;
    Security alarms systems; T-1 Trunks;
    Video conferencing circuits;
    Water monitoring; 10 & 100 BaseT Ethernet;
    All main distribution frames (MDFs);
    Special circuits activity, which includes analog remote testing systems.
  • Responsible for the stand-alone Comlabs Selective Signaling Terminal (SST) critical emergency system that connects Savannah River Site Operations Center / Emergency Operations Center (SRSOC/EOC), used to make announcements to all strategic points, and the Emergency Notification Network (ENN), which connects to local emergency preparedness (EP) functions to more than 50 on-site locations, including Centerra law enforcement and all area controls rooms located throughout SRS.
  • Portable test equipment includes laptop, Pro Comm voice/data transmission sets, T-1 testers, and others.
