The City of Aiken is accepting applications for a Utilities Training Coordinator to join our Engineering & Utilities Department.
- Establishes and oversees onboarding training schedule and milestones for new employees and tracks progress and completion documentation in support of probationary and permanent status decisions
- Maintains role-based skills and competency training program for each employee and evaluates employee's performance for completion in the program to coordinate supervisor sign offs and training follow up
- Conduct select standardized training, orientation, safety basics, and approved department modules, and coordinates task‑specific training delivered by supervisors, subject matter experts, or external providers to ensure proper technical and safety procedures are followed
- Supports safety compliance through periodic field inspections, training verification, and documentation and coordinates corrective actions and refresher training as needed
- Tracks accidents, near misses, and property damage reports; completes, maintains, records, and coordinates corrective actions, retraining, and closure documentation
- Teach certain classes for the department (First Aid/CPR/AED, DDC8, etc.)
- Maintains a department training calendar and training matrix by role that tracks required training, renewals, and expirations, and completion rates
- Prepares routine reports and dashboards summarizing training completion, overdue items, and corrective action status for management review
- Coordinates internal and external training logistics including rosters, scheduling course materials, vendor coordination, and documentation retention
- Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints, and requests for assistance from customers and the public
- Assists in other tasks as required
- Keeps up with assigned vehicle and tools, verifies all tools and equipment are adequate and safe to use, and conducts weekly toolbox safety meetings
- Participates in utilities applicants interviews when requested to support onboarding fit and identify training needs
- Participates in planning meetings to identify any health and safety concerns inherent in the operation of daily work plan
- Pull on call duties as a supervisor on call
- Valid driver's license
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Be certified, or ability to obtain and maintain certifications as a First Aid/CPR/AED instructor and Defensive Driving instructor within the first year
- Interpersonal skills necessary to be courteous of fellow employees, citizens, and businesses while performing duties
- Three (3) years of experience in utilities or public works operations, safety and training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience which produces the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ability to manage training records using Sharepoint or other electronic documentation
- Strong documentation, organization, and communication skills
- Familiarity with common public works safety requirements to include confined space, excavation and trenching, traffic control, PPE, etc.
