Description

The City of Aiken is accepting applications for a Utilities Technician to join our Engineering & Utilities Department.
Examples of Duties

• Checks water leaks, determine the severity and reports their findings to the Utility Coordinator and/or Supervisor
• Performs pressure checks when customers have pressure issues
• Completes SCDOT encroachment permits when needed and turns them into Engineering
• Turn in proper paperwork to the Utility Office personnel
• Enter information into the GIS system
• Is on call for the Utility Department
• Performs general clerical work as required
• Other assigned duties as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Two to three years Utility experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
• Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions
• Interpersonal skills necessary to be courteous of fellow employees, citizens, and businesses while performing repair and maintenance duties
• Be familiar with operating and entering information into the GIS system
• Have knowledge and understanding of SCDOT encroachment permits
• Valid state issued driver's license in good standing

Retirement

Full-time employees participate in the Defined Contribution 401(a) Retirement Plan. After one year of employment, the employee will begin contributing 6% to the Plan, with the City making a matching 6% contribution. Employees are fully vested after 5 years of service.
