Job Requirements:

  • Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, drawings, graphs and procedures manuals.
  • Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; compute rates, ratios and percentages.
  • Must be able to create/interpret various data collection tools.
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must be able to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Train and/or assist production employees and others in the following practices:
    • Paint application.
    • Maintain (PM), and repair all associated paint line equipment such as pumps, guns, mixers, heaters, Precision Mix, Pro-Mix, hoses, lines, etc. This includes repairing or replacing worn or defective parts, reassembly, adjustments, and testing.
    • Understand and proficient with use of mix center to support special paint requirements.
    • Troubleshoot daily paint problems.
    • Maintain documentation in a daily logbook of repairs, activities, and Preventative Maintenance (PM’s).
  • Quality Control of paint area to include the following:
    • Monitor and adjust cure oven settings.
    • Provide training to production paint employees.
  • Communication (both oral and written) to all management levels and between many different departments to include:
    • Training of new hires and/or poor performers on quality painting procedures on a daily basis.
    • Supervision – Communicate quality issues daily and provide input on employee performance as needed.
  • Manage and maintain the spare part inventory system; assist in the managing and reporting of paint inventory levels and usage.
  • Be a direct interface/point of with outside suppliers pertaining to paint related products, equipment and services. This would include lead times and stocking levels;
    Interface with internal maintenance staff.
  • Detect and report defective materials, improper operation and unusual conditions to proper supervision.
  • Other duties as determined by supervision.

This position is located on the production shop floor, in multiple buildings. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use tools or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand, reach, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Incumbent will work in a typical paint environment including the use of solvents, adhesives, hydraulic oil, petroleum products, etc.

There is frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds.

Education & Experience Requirements :
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
  • Ten (10) years of experience in a manufacturing environment required, with two (2) of the ten years in paint application.
Health & Safety Requirements:
  • Maintain departmental housekeeping and 5S standards.
  • Perform job functions in a safe manner.
  • Wear all Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) required by Company Policy for the job being performed.
  • Know and follow established job specific and facility wide safety and health procedures and rules.
  • Actively participate in safety and health training and demonstrate competency based on training received.
  • Bring safety and health issues, unsafe acts, and safety suggestions to management’s attention or correct those you can.
Health and Safety Responsibilities:
  • Employees who are required to wear half or full-face respirators must take and pass a pulmonary function test annually, be fit tested annually and complete a medical surveillance questionnaire each year.
  • No facial hair is permitted that may interfere with the seal of the respirator.
  • Areas that utilize air supplied hoods; there are no medical requirements but must complete a medical surveillance questionnaire each year.
  • Responsible for collection of paint related waste associated with paint gun flush activities. Painters will receive introductory and annual training related to the hazardous waste collection of gun flush solvent. Training will cover hazards of hazardous waste, collection methods, spill prevention methods, bonding/grounding to be utilized, emergency shutdown procedures for paint/solvent lines, proper labeling and dating of containers, storage requirements and time frames, spill reporting and emergency evacuation procedures, and…
