Job Description

This position is responsible for painting operations on the production floor, ensuring quality control and maintenance of paint equipment, and providing training to production employees.

Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, drawings, graphs, and procedure manuals.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Perform basic arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, divide) with whole numbers, fractions, decimals and compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • Create and interpret various data collection tools.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.
Essential Job Functions
  • Train and assist production employees and others in:
    • Paint application.
    • Maintaining preventive maintenance and repairing all associated paint line equipment such as pumps, guns, mixers, heaters, Precision Mix, Pro‑Mix, hoses, lines, etc. Includes repairing or replacing worn or defective parts, reassembly, adjustments, and testing.
    • Using the mix center to support special paint requirements.
    • Troubleshooting daily paint problems.
    • Maintaining documentation in a daily logbook of repairs, activities, and preventive maintenance.
    • Quality control of the paint area, including monitoring and adjusting cure oven settings.
  • Provide training to production paint employees.
  • Communicate (oral and written) with all management levels and across departments.
  • Other duties as determined by supervision.
Departments To Include
  • Training of new hires or underperforming employees on quality painting procedures on a daily basis.
  • Supervision – Communicate quality issues daily and provide input on employee performance as needed.
  • Manage and maintain the spare part inventory system; assist in reporting paint inventory levels and usage.
  • Act as a direct interface/point of contact with outside suppliers for paint related products, equipment and services, including lead times and stocking levels.
  • Detect and report defective materials, improper operation and unusual conditions to proper supervision.
  • Other duties as determined by supervision.
Working Environment

The position is located on the production shop floor across multiple buildings. Work requires the regular use of tools or controls, standing, reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. Exposure to solvents, adhesives, hydraulic oil, petroleum products and other chemicals is typical.

Education & Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ten (10) years of experience in a manufacturing environment required, with at least two (2) of those years in paint application.
Health & Safety Requirements
  • Maintain departmental housekeeping and 5S standards.
  • Perform job functions in a safe manner.
  • Wear all personal protective equipment (P.P.E.) required by Company Policy.
  • Know and follow established job‑specific and facility‑wide safety and health procedures.
  • Actively participate in safety and health training and demonstrate competency.
  • Bring safety and health issues, unsafe acts, and safety suggestions to management’s attention or correct those you can.
  • Employees required to use half or full‑face respirators must pass a pulmonary function test annually, be fit‑tested annually, and complete a medical surveillance questionnaire each year.
  • No facial hair that may interfere with the seal of the respirator.
  • If areas utilize air‑supplied hoods, no medical requirements beyond annual medical surveillance questionnaire.
  • Collect paint‑related waste from paint gun flush activities and store it in compliance with hazardous waste regulations.
  • Receive annual training on hazardous waste collection, spill prevention, bonding/grounding, emergency shutdown procedures, proper labeling and dating, storage requirements, spill reporting, and emergency evacuation.

  • Forklift and/or aerial work platform certification.
