Position Summary

The CNC Operator runs the machining centers in crankcase manufacturing, machining crankcases to exact specifications with in‑process quality assurance. The role offers a clear development path, starting with line boring (no prior CNC experience required) and progressing to CNC machining on the Burkhardt & Weber (B&W) machines, with responsibility and pay increasing as operators advance.

With this attractive opportunity you will get a chance to:

  • Set up and machine crankcases according to specifications, routings, control plans, and drawings, on the line boring machine and, at the advanced level, on the Burkhardt & Weber (B&W) machining centers with Sinumerik One control system
  • Bore and align the bearing alleys of the crankcase, including the camshaft and crankshaft bores, re‑boring as required to achieve precise alignment
  • Clamp, reclamp, and unclamp crankcases, monitor the process, and correct as necessary
  • Monitor, change, correct, and adjust tools as required
  • Study machining instructions, routings, control plans, job orders, and blueprints to determine dimensional and finish specifications, sequences of operations, machine setups, and tooling requirements
  • Select the appropriate tools and materials for the preparation of crankcase components
  • Set up, adjust, and operate the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations
  • Perform fine‑tuning through sample cuts and optimize the CNC program with regard to tool durability, collision prevention, and program sequencing
  • Observe machine operation to detect conditions such as dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust to compensate
Position Requirements
  • Entry level, line boring:
Completed vocational training as a machine and plant operator or a comparable qualification, or a U.S. equivalent such as a mechanical or machining trade school certificate, an Associate's Degree, or relevant hands‑on experience in a machining environment.
  • Direct work as CNC Operator on the B&W machines:
Completed vocational training as an industrial mechanic specializing in production technology, or a comparable 3.5‑year apprenticeship in a metalworking profession, or 2 years of trade school or an equivalent Associate's Degree, or 3 years of experience in a heavy‑duty machining environment; several years of experience operating NC‑controlled machining centers; and knowledge of Sinumerik One control system.
  • Shift: Full Time, 1st Shift – Monday through Thursday, 5:45am to 4:15pm.
  • All levels:
Strong quality awareness and a high sense of responsibility; physically resilient, reliable, and committed; willingness to work shifts and occasional weekends; and the ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. without sponsorship. No visa sponsorship available.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating Burkhardt & Weber (B&W) machining centers.
  • Knowledge of Sinumerik One control system would be particularly advantageous.
  • Several years of experience on a conventional boring mill (e.g., Collet) would be an advantage.
  • Experience machining crankcases or large cast components.
  • Intermediate knowledge of CNC controls, machines, and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Intermediate knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Basic ability to interpret Statistical Process Control (SPC) and operate scanning devices for system communications.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing and production processes, raw materials, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods (Quality Alerts, Second Checks, etc.).
Work Environment
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Daily work is performed in a durable goods manufacturing environment.
