Laboratory Technician
Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking an entry-level Laboratory Technician to perform laboratory testing, sample preparation, and analytical support under appropriate levels of supervision. This role supports the Material Test Laboratory (MTL) surveillance mission for the Nuclear Security Enterprise, while operating within the Savannah River Tritium Enterprise.
Responsibilities- The selected candidate will be instructed in metallographic techniques and support a variety of work tasks throughout the facility under close supervision utilizing clearly defined standard operating procedures.
- Hands on activities include setup/clean-up of job activities, stocking supplies, performing leak test and integrity test of components, sectioning components, preparing metal and polymer samples for analysis, optical and digital microscopy, engineering support, removal and disposal of radioactive waste.
- Work is expected to be performed in a laboratory setting utilizing ventilated hoods and glove boxes and in a radioactive environment requiring the use of protective clothing and respiratory equipment.
- Other duties may be assigned by supervision
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Candidate must have completed ACT Work Keys Skills Assessment and achieved a minimum score of:
- 2 in Workplace Observation
- 3 in Applied Math
- 3 in Graphic Literacy
- 4 in Workplace Documents
- Test scores for each assessment must be within the last five years and must be uploaded to Oracle at the time of application submission or by the time the posting closes to be considered for this vacancy.
- Position requires the ability to secure and maintain a Q-clearance
