Job Summary

The temporary Patrol Officer provides law enforcement, security, and protection for the University of South Carolina Aiken community and property. These are certified police officers in accordance with SC Code of Laws, empowered with full arrest and police authority. They enforce campus rules and regulations, local, state, and federal laws. The duties include patrol, event security, assistance in critical incidents, and emergency first response.

• High school diploma.
• Must be 21 years of age, be physically qualified and have no criminal record.
• Must pass a background investigation and be currently certified as a Class I officer of South Carolina, certified and trained at the SC Criminal Justice Academy.
• Duty hours include nights and weekends.
• Successful candidate must pass a pre‑employment alcohol and drug test as well as be subject to random, post‑incident, and reasonable‑suspicion drug and alcohol testing consistent with USC HR Policy 1.95, Drug and Alcohol Testing.

• Prefer 1 year of experience in Public Safety/Law Enforcement.
• Knowledge of proper law enforcement officer behavior and role.
• Knowledge of modern law enforcement techniques and procedure.
• Knowledge of how to collect and preserve evidence.
• Knowledge of the legal rights of suspects, victims, and law enforcement personnel.
• Knowledge of the laws of South Carolina, and policies of the University.
• Knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of other law enforcement agencies.
• Skill in the operation of law enforcement vehicles, weapons, and communications equipment.

Temporary employees expected to work at least 30 hours per week are eligible for health and life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and retirement programs under the State of SC and Public Employee Benefit Authority (PEBA).

Employees in Safety‑Sensitive or Security‑Sensitive positions will be subject to pre‑employment and post‑employment drug testing in accordance with University policy HR 1.95 Drug and Alcohol Testing.

Rate: $23.26 per hour;
Full time, 40 hours per week;
