Heavy Equipment Operator

The City of Aiken is accepting applications for a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Engineering & Utilities department in the Water Distribution division. The position involves:

• Operating and maintaining any heavy equipment necessary for the ongoing maintenance of the City's utility infrastructure system
• Moving equipment from the shop to the job site
• Working with crews to maintain water leaks, on call, right of ways, and fire hydrants, etc.
• Operating a variety of light and heavy equipment and moving material
• Knowledge of and safe handling of hand tools, pumps, tamps and pipe/tubing repair tools
• Maintaining and completing safety inspection on equipment to ensure proper functioning

Requirements include:

• Class A Commercial driver's license
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Analytical ability to plan work schedules, diagnose equipment malfunctions, and determine necessary repairs
• Interpersonal skills necessary to be courteous of fellow employees, citizens, and businesses while performing repair and maintenance duties
• Ability to perform manual labor and operate a variety of small equipment and hand tools
• Two years of experience in operating light and heavy maintenance and construction equipment; or any combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
