Heavy Equipment Operator
The City of Aiken is accepting applications for a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Engineering & Utilities department in the Water Distribution division.
Examples of Duties
- Operates and maintains any heavy equipment necessary for the ongoing maintenance of the City's utility infrastructure system
- Moves equipment from the shop to the job site
- Works with crews to maintain water leaks, on call, right of ways, and fire hydrants, etc.
- Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment and moving material
- Knowledge of and safe handling of hand tools, pumps, tamps and pipe/tubing repair tools
- Maintains and completes safety inspection on equipment to ensure proper functioning
Minimum Qualifications
- Class A Commercial driver's license
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Analytical ability to plan work schedules, diagnose equipment malfunctions, and determine necessary repairs
- Interpersonal skills necessary to be courteous of fellow employees, citizens, and businesses while performing repair and maintenance duties
- Must be able to perform manual labor and operate a variety of small equipment and hand tools
- Two years of experience in operating light and heavy maintenance and construction equipment; or any combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

Retirement:
Full-time employees participate in the Defined Contribution 401(a) Retirement Plan. After one year of employment, the employee will begin contributing 6% to the Plan, with the City making a matching 6% contribution. Employees are fully vested after 5 years of service.
