Highway Maintenance Worker III - Crew Leader Re-Advertisement

Job Responsibilities

Serves as Crew Leader coordinating various construction, repair, and preservation activities of roads within a section of Aiken County ensuring all work performed is recorded in the maintenance data management system. Instructs crew members daily in safety practices such as flagging operations, wearing safety equipment, vehicle safety, or job site hazards. Operates heavy equipment such as but not limited to backhoes, motor graders, and slope mowers to perform routine maintenance on highway right of ways.

Flags traffic in low and high volume areas to control flow of traffic for protection of workers, equipment, and general public during maintenance operations. Assists in the placement of traffic control devices in accordance with the MUTCD manual. Maintains working knowledge and practices of Work Zone Safety in accordance with MUTCD manual. Conducts and documents pre-trip equipment/vehicle inspection in accordance with the Department's most current rules, policies and procedures according to fleet safety.

Operates standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and salt spreader to remove snow and ice from roadways and bridges. Performs On-Call duties as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.

May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
