Electrical & Instrumentation Control Mechanic

This is the starting salary for this position. This position offers biannual pay increases for employees that are satisfactorily progressing towards qualification, meeting the company’s expectations and standards, and adhering to workplace policies. The maximum pay rate is typically achieved at the career level within two to three years.

Maintenance/production personnel support the operational success of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities, buildings, systems, and shops. Professionals in these roles are responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of equipment, machinery, and production processes to meet quality, safety, and productivity standards.

Electrical and Instrumentation (E&IC) personnel are responsible for the implementation, operation, and maintenance of instrument/electrical systems. They troubleshoot and repair electro-mechanical equipment and solve technical problems in nuclear facility settings

SRNS is currently seeking E&I (Electrical & Instrumentation) Mechanic Apprentices.

New hires will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program comprised of classroom and on-the-job training (OJT) at SRNS and earning the Electrical Fundamentals Certification from Aiken Technical College. The program is designed to train apprentices to perform the E&I Maintenance processes. Apprentices will first be enrolled in the Electrical Fundamentals certification program at Aiken Technical College, and once successfully completed will transition to full-time training at SRNS.

The work schedule will consist of 40 hours of paid time per week. Apprentices will have both classroom and on-the-job training under the guidance of a qualified E&I Maintenance operator or instructor and will utilize the "earn while you learn" method. OJT will consist of field time working with industry professionals in the areas of Safety, Maintenance, Radiation Protection, and Operations combined with regulatory instruction required to perform industrial work at SRS.

Apprentices will enroll in and achieve the Electrical Fundamentals Certificate at Aiken Technical College and must obtain a passing grade on all exams and in all courses. The courses consist of Intermediate Algebra, Power and Hand Tool Operations, Commercial and Industrial Wiring, AC/DC Drives, AC/DC Machines, Electronic Devices, and Control Circuits.

Upon completion of the program, employees will receive a nationally recognized and portable credential from the Department of Labor and continue performing job functions as described below.
