Purpose and Impact:
DOE Savannah River Site (SRS) processes and stores nuclear materials in support of national defense and U.S. nuclear nonproliferation efforts. The site also develops and deploys technologies to improve the environment and treat solid and liquid nuclear and hazardous waste left from the Cold War. While current missionsremainthe highest priority, SRS leadership places great importance on developing broader missions for SRS that use its unique capabilities to address critical national missions.
The Operation and Maintenance operator is Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS), as a Subcontractor to SRNS, Amentum Technology Inc. (ATI) provides telecommunications system operation and maintenance services as well as site operator services s position supports operation and maintenance program managing the voice and data services at the Savannah River site.

Essential Responsibilities:
Install, splice, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair copper and fiber cables (multimode/single mode) and terminals in aerial, buried, underground, and buildings at SRS in support of the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC (SRNS) O&M Telecommunication’s contract.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintain and repair underground network infrastructure to ensure system reliability.
- Troubleshoot, perform test using Optical Time Domain Reflector (OTDR), power meters, and VFL.
- Splice copper, fiber cables and terminals.
- Copper:
- Demonstrate knowledge of 25pair color code and how to apply it to large count cables ranging up to 2700pairs.
- Installation of copper cable splice cases (utilizing 25pair splicing modules and splicing press).
- Installation of grounding and Building Entrance Terminals (lightening protection).
- Fiber:
- Demonstrate knowledge of differences in fiber types i.e. multimode vs. single mode. Could include composite cables that contain a mix of both.
- Demonstrate knowledge of 12strand fiber color code and how to apply it to cables up to 288strands.
- Experience with fusion splicing equipment.
- Install fiber-optic splice cabinets and adapter panel enclosures.
- Copper:
- Locate underground cable for interference.
- Execution of all Outside Plant (OSP) activities for Work Orders (WO) & trouble tickets.
- Assist cable placement engineers in field verification of cables and cable routes, conduit, and telecommunication manholes as they relate to specific SRNS requirements.
- Maintain splicing and testing equipment
- Update CAIRS TMS with new cable information when new facilities are added.
- Maintain drawings on existing facility wiring.
- Operate forklift to maintain cable yard is a plus.
- Follow all safety policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
- Able to work in manholes
- Work outside for cable locates
- Know colors for large copper counts
- Know colors for large Fiber counts
- Able to splice large count copper/fiber cable
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Outside Plant Fiber and Copper knowledge
- Single mode and Multimode Fiber installation and termination knowledge
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must have a current driver's license
- Must pass an alcohol and substance abuse test
- Must be able to pass to obtain DOE Clearance
- Must be able to work flexible hours
- Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, up to 50 lbs.
- Stand on your feet for extended periods of time.
- Work inmanholesand outdoors
- Must be able to pass to obtain DOE Clearance
