About SSBC

Sport Safeguarding BC (SSBC) is an independent organization newly established to promote safe, inclusive, and accountable sport environments across British Columbia. SSBC provides leadership in safeguarding, prevention, and the management and resolution of concerns related to abuse, maltreatment, and harassment in provincially funded amateur sport.

The Opportunity

SSBC is seeking its inaugural Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organization through its foundational launch and implementation phase. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will play a central role in shaping SSBC’s organizational structure, service delivery model, partnerships, and long-term impact. This is a unique opportunity for a strategic and values‑driven leader to help build a trauma‑informed, accessible, and trusted safeguarding system for amateur sport in British Columbia.

Position

Summary

SSBC is seeking its inaugural Chief Executive Officer (CEO): a strategic, values‑driven, and systems‑oriented person to lead the organization, beginning with its organizational design and implementation phase. The CEO will translate SSBC’s vision into an operational, trauma‑informed service delivery model, designing and implementing an intake and triage system, establishing early resolution and investigation pathways, and leading a phased, iterative rollout of services for provincially funded amateur sport organizations in British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategy, Vision & Organizational Design
    • Operationalize SSBC’s vision into a comprehensive service delivery model grounded in prevention and early intervention, trauma‑informed and culturally responsive practices, accessibility, and a “one‑door” model for raising and managing concerns.
    • Develop and execute a multi‑year iterative rollout plan, including pilot phases, evaluation, and scaling.
    • Establish success indicators, evaluation frameworks, and continuous improvement mechanisms.
    • Identify and respond to emerging risks, trends, and policy developments in safeguarding and safe sport.
  • Service Delivery & Program Development
    • Design and implement SSBC’s concern management system, including navigator‑based intake, triage, and ongoing support, early resolution pathways, and criteria and processes for escalation to investigation.
    • Establish a navigator role as a consistent point of contact for individuals, with internal early resolution capacity and external rosters of mediators, facilitators, and investigators with appropriate training and diversity.
    • Ensure all services minimize re‑traumatization and administrative burden, provide clear, accessible information and options, and support individuals throughout the full lifecycle of a concern.
    • Develop protocols for handling serious harm and risk, including alignment with legal processes where applicable.
  • Organizational Build & Operations
    • Lead the establishment of SSBC, including organizational structure, staffing plan, and operational systems; policies, procedures, service standards; technology and data management systems.
    • Recruit and lead staff (e.g., navigator, administrative support, early resolution roles).
    • Establish an operational model with virtual intake and flexible service delivery.
  • Board Relations & Governance
    • Build a strong, transparent, and collaborative relationship with the Board.
    • Provide strategic advice on service model refinement, rollout, and organizational growth.
    • Support governance development, including policy frameworks and Board recruitment.
    • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, bylaws, and governance standards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & System Leadership
    • Serve as SSBC’s primary representative with government, Sport, and sector partners.
    • Build relationships with provincial and national sport organizations, safeguarding and regulatory bodies, and community and advocacy organizations.
    • Position SSBC as a trusted, independent system partner in safe sport.
    • Support alignment with public policy priorities and long‑term funding strategies.
