Accountant Overview

The Plant Accountant is responsible for organizing and coordinating the general accounting activities for the plant. The role maintains an accurate general ledger, prepares basic financial reports, and analyzes and reports any variances.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes, including estimates and accruals.
  • Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
  • Comply with financial policies and procedures, including PCA’s SOX 404 Key Controls.
  • Prepare, maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and financial reports (balance sheets, profit‑loss statements, capital expenditure reports).
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze forecasts, then prepare periodic reports comparing forecasts to actual costs.
  • Follow up on customer accounts, including credit issuances and collection activity.
  • Process hourly payroll and related payroll/employee functions in compliance with company policies and state/federal requirements.
  • Guide, develop, and train accounting associates and assist the Plant Controller in supervising day‑to‑day accounting activities.
  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and reports to assess accuracy and compliance with reporting standards.
  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, and financial commitments to project future revenues and expenses and provide advice.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (preferred).
  • Three (3) years of work experience in a business office/accounting department with exposure to general ledger, payroll, and/or accounts payable functions.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Experience with financial systems for invoicing, credit/collections, expense reporting, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Previous experience in the manufacturing sector, container board, or corrugated packaging industry (preferred).
  • Experience with Oracle ERP Systems in a manufacturing or plant accounting environment (preferred).
  • Solid understanding of GAAP concepts, internal controls, and standard financial/accounting procedures.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑oriented environment and handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Team‑oriented mindset with strong listening, evaluating, and relationship‑building abilities.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Starting salary range: $75,000 - $95,000
  • Annual bonus based on individual contribution and overall company performance.
  • Three (3) weeks paid vacation per calendar year.
  • Paid holidays.
  • Eligibility for medical, dental, and vision coverage within the first 30 days of employment; automatic enrollment in life, AD&D, and disability coverages.
  • Automatic enrollment in the 401(k) plan with pre‑tax and Roth options and employer matching contributions.
