Position Summary
The Accountant I assists more senior accounting professionals to coordinate and administer accounting initiatives at a local level. Day-to-day responsibilities include the application of accounting principles, analysis of information, and preparation of financial / cost accounting reports. This role will have no direct reports.
Essential Functions- Completes assigned daily general ledger entries and other financial transactions in accordance with accounting principles so that the general ledger is accurate and up-to-date
- Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial data including income statement and balance sheet
- Collects and compiles simple financial information and assists senior accountant to prepare accurate and timely financial reports and accounting statements for managers
- Reports may include profit and loss statements, balance sheets, depreciation statements, cash flow, debtor and creditor lists, repayment schedules, regulatory reports and filings
- Answers standard accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policies and regulations
- Complies with all accounting principles and all relevant regulations, laws, and standards
- Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential
- Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Foundational understanding of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS awareness is a plus)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (sorting, formulas, pivot tables a plus)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
- Good communication skills and willingness to learn
