About the Opportunity

The FERC & State Compliance organization is located within the Office of Ethics and Compliance. The organization is responsible for managing compliance with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's Standards of Conduct, Affiliate Restrictions, Cross-Subsidization and Market Behavior/Anti-Market Manipulation regulations, as well as State Codes of Conduct and Corporate Separation regulations.
This position reports to the Manager, FERC and State Compliance.
This is a full-time, on-site position located in Akron, OH. The preferred office location will be at the First Energy Headquarters. Other locations within the FE service territory will also be considered.
Responsibilities include:
* Serve as a subject-matter expert on FERC Standards of Conduct, Affiliate Restrictions, Cross-Subsidization, and Market Behavior/Anti-Market Manipulation requirements; provide oversight and challenge to ensure First Energy's companion compliance programs (FERC and State Compliance-owned) meet the Company's objective of sustained, demonstrable compliance.
* Own and continuously improve written guidance, policies, standards, and operating procedures that govern the FERC Compliance Programs; ensure documentation is audit-ready, version-controlled, and aligned to regulatory intent and business processes.
* Maintain deep knowledge of State Codes of Conduct compliance requirements and drive harmonization with FERC compliance frameworks where appropriate to streamline controls, reduce duplication, and strengthen enterprise consistency.
* Lead and support internal/external audits, investigations, and compliance reviews involving potential FERC violations; manage auditor interactions, coordinate timely responses to requests, and document corrective actions and remediation evidence to standards required for regulatory and audit scrutiny.
* Partner across compliance and control functions on investigations and special projects; advise on safeguards for FERC-sensitive information and support the independent functioning of First Energy affiliates through clear controls, escalation pathways, and defensible documentation.
* Design, implement, and document new controls; consult with business leaders to build fit-for-purpose local compliance programs that mitigate emerging risks while enabling operational needs. Drive practical solutions that meet business objectives without compromising FERC regulatory requirements.
* Oversee and advise on the governance of employee FERC classifications and related access controls to ensure appropriate protection and segregation of FERC-sensitive information across First Energy systems and network resources.
* Leverage First Energy compliance technology to assign ownership, track control performance, monitor obligations, and produce defensible records that support audits, investigations, and ongoing regulatory compliance.
* Develop and enhance compliance metrics to measure program effectiveness, identify trends, and inform risk-based prioritization and management reporting.
* Build and sustain strong cross-functional partnerships critical to FERC compliance outcomes (Legal, HR, IT, Internal Audit, Physical Security); align roles and responsibilities, coordinate issue resolution, and drive timely execution of remediation commitments.
* Lead routine and ad hoc compliance training campaigns end-to-end (planning through completion validation), to achieve and sustain 100% completion.
* Prepare and deliver presentations to diverse audiences, translating complex regulatory requirements into clear expectations, actionable guidance, and measurable compliance behaviors.
Qualifications at the Senior level Include:
* Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, or a related discipline required.
* Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience, including roles in regulatory, engineering, or business functions with demonstrated responsibility for compliance, auditing, analytical, or technical activities.
* Experience developing, enhancing, and implementing new or substantially revised programs strongly preferred.
