Job Description
First Energy Service Company, a subsidiary of First Energy Corp, seeks a full‑time, on‑site analyst located at any First Energy location, preferably Akron, Ohio. This position provides a regulatory strategy and program development role within Customer Programs & Solutions, focusing on electrification, distributed energy resources (DER), electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, demand response, virtual power plants (VPP), and emerging technologies.
Estimated base salary range is $71,400 – $112,200, increasing to $85,680 – $134,640 for New Jersey due to a 20 % cost‑of‑living differential.
SummaryThe Analyst will support regulatory strategy, program development, and stakeholder engagement, working across a distributed, matrixed organization on first‑of‑kind initiatives in a fluid regulatory environment.
Responsibilities- Support the design, development, and regulatory approval of customer programs related to electrification, DER, EV infrastructure, demand response, VPP, and emerging technologies.
- Conduct business‑specific and strategic research; analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information; interpret results; and translate findings into clear recommendations and deliverables.
- Support development of regulatory filings and associated materials (testimony, exhibits, work papers, discovery responses, comments, presentations), coordinating inputs across internal partners.
- Support cost‑benefit analysis and economic assessments, including building conceptual frameworks, reviewing consultant‑prepared analyses, validating assumptions, and translating results into regulatory‑ready narratives.
- Support program funding, budget development, and recoverability strategies, including familiarity with rate structures, riders/trackers, pilots, and rate design fundamentals related to program design and cost recovery.
- Lead or support discrete project‑based work streams: build and maintain workplans, coordinate timelines and dependencies, track deliverables, and support on‑time, high‑quality submissions.
- Collaborate across cross‑functional and matrixed teams (Legal, Rates, Engineering, Operations, Finance, IT, Program Delivery, vendors, and external partners) to advance program objectives.
- Support vendor and partner coordination related to program development, analysis, evaluation/EM&V planning, compliance, and performance reporting.
- Develop and maintain program documentation (requirements, process maps, implementation plans, risk logs, decision records) and identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and repeatability.
- Conduct benchmarking of peer utilities and industry programs to identify best practices, performance metrics, cost drivers, and regulatory approaches that inform program design and regulatory positioning.
- Represent the Company’s interests in internal and external working groups, stakeholder forums, and collaborative processes, consistent with established Company positions and guidance.
- Contribute effectively in ambiguous or rapidly evolving environments, including pilot programs, phased implementations, and proceedings without established precedents.
- Two‑year degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering or a related discipline is preferred, along with a minimum of four years related work experience.
- In lieu of a degree, a minimum of seven years of direct, related experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research, analyze data, interpret results, and provide sound recommendations.
- Strong organizational and written communication skills; ability to prepare clear materials for internal and external audiences.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfort learning additional tools/systems.
- Ability to work effectively across cross‑functional, distributed, and matrixed organizations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across jurisdictions, balancing differing timelines, policy objectives, and stakeholder considerations.
