GPD is currently seeking a Design Architect for our Akron, OH office location to support GPD’s mission in our Federal practice.

Position Summary

As a Federal Design Architect, you will be an integral component of our Architecture/Engineering Practice. We are looking for an architect who is enthusiastic and motivated with responsibilities including design and documentation for a broad range of project types. With an ongoing focus on growing Federal department. You will prepare full design packages including supporting the activities of the other design disciplines engaged in preparing drawings and specification documents for the Conceptual Design Phase, Schematic Design Phase, Design Development and Construction Document Phases of a project.

You must demonstrate creative problem-solving, organizational skills, ability to work independently, strong production management capabilities, and a good understanding of design preparation and constructability.

Key Responsibilities
  • In partnership with the Lead Architect and Designers, help support the planning and architectural design of federal and government projects, demonstrating the ability to develop design documents.
  • Responsibilities include supporting the lead architect with code research, programming, design, documentation, specifications, narratives and construction administration including field visits to projects.
  • May be required to research agency standards and requirements for design compliance.
  • Supporting the team researching design solutions and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrate creative problem-solving, organizational skills, strong production management capabilities, and a good understanding of construction documents and constructability.
  • Coordination with all disciplines of design including our in house or subconsultant engineers and designers
  • Conduct building assessments and building surveys
  • Support the team with review, coordinate, and refine work produced by yourself and project team members to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
  • Develop 3D visualizations to facilitate design reviews and design intent.
  • Support completely Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) reviews to verify that all deliverables meet the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and federal client requirements as directed.
  • Support construction administration services. Support review of shop drawings and coordination with design team.
  • Mentor and support entry level architects.
  • Experience:

    Minimum of 4-6 years of job-related experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in development of design documents through a variety of design phases including schematic design, design development, developing construction documents and specifications, and supporting projects through construction administration.
  • Intermediate to advanced ACAD and Revit/BIM understanding is required.
  • Experienced and comfortable working directly with the project architect to provide timely updates on project status and discussing project scope.
  • Ability to work within a team environment working with individuals from various offices and in various disciplines.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, professional writing skills and the ability to multi-task between several projects and priorities at one time.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, Teams).
