Role DescriptionDue to existing and anticipated organizational growth, the Project Manager / Registered Architect is a new full-time, in-office role based in Akron, OH. This role will lead diverse architectural projects from initial concept through construction completion. This role combines strong architectural expertise with exceptional project leadership, client management, and organizational skills.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide architectural leadership and technical oversight throughout all phases of a project.
- Review drawings, specifications, and other project documents for quality, accuracy, constructability, and code compliance.
- Ensure designs meet applicable building codes, zoning requirements, accessibility standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Sign and seal architectural documents when appropriate and in accordance with state licensing requirements and firm policies.
- Support permitting and regulatory approval processes.
- Participate in construction administration, including reviewing submittals and RFIs, conducting site visits, and helping resolve field conditions and constructability challenges.
- Lead multiple architectural projects from programming and schematic design through design development, construction documents, permitting, bidding, and construction administration.
- Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and deliverables.
- Monitor project progress and proactively identify risks, delays, scope changes, or budget concerns.
- Coordinate the work of internal project teams and external consultants, including structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, landscape, and other specialty disciplines.
- Lead project meetings and ensure decisions, responsibilities, and next steps are clearly documented and communicated.
- Maintain project documentation and ensure work is completed in accordance with firm standards and contractual requirements.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and primary day-to-day contact for assigned clients.
- Develop a strong understanding of each client's goals, priorities, budget, and decision-making process.
- Communicate project status, challenges, decisions, and changes clearly and proactively.
- Manage client expectations while maintaining strong, long-term relationships.
- Identify opportunities to expand relationships and support additional client needs when appropriate.
- Provide clear direction, priorities, and expectations to project team members.
- Delegate work effectively while maintaining accountability for overall project performance.
- Mentor and support architects, designers, and emerging professionals.
- Review team members' work and provide constructive feedback that strengthens both project quality and professional development.
- Partner with firm leadership on staffing, workload planning, and project resource needs.
- Monitor project budgets, hours, utilization, and profitability.
- Manage projects to established fee structures and identify potential scope changes before additional work is performed.
- Assist with proposals, project scopes, fee development, and contract negotiations as needed.
- Support the firm's commitment to delivering high-quality work while meeting financial and operational objectives.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
- 5+ years of architectural experience, including experience managing projects through multiple phases of design and construction.
- Demonstrated experience independently managing architectural projects, clients, consultants, budgets, and schedules.
