Hospice Medical Director

An established hospice care provider in the Akron, Ohio area is seeking a Hospice Medical Director to provide medical leadership and physician oversight for its hospice program. This individual will oversee the medical component of the program, serve as a clinical resource to the interdisciplinary team, support hospice eligibility and certification decisions, and help ensure continuity and quality of physician services.

• Assume responsibility for the medical component of the hospice program
• Serve as a clinical resource to the interdisciplinary hospice team
• Support appropriate hospice eligibility and certification decisions
• Help ensure continuity and quality of physician services
• Collaborate with attending physicians and interdisciplinary hospice teams
• Advise clinicians and educate community physicians on hospice care
• Participate in interdisciplinary care planning
• Represent hospice professionally within the medical community

• Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
• Active, unrestricted Ohio physician license
• Current state and federal controlled-substance registrations
• Hospice or palliative-care experience, or substantive training in end-of-life care
• Knowledge of Medicare hospice eligibility, certification, recertification, and Conditions of Participation
• Ability to collaborate effectively with attending physicians and interdisciplinary hospice teams
• Commitment to continued medical education related to hospice and palliative medicine
• Eligible to participate in Medicare and not excluded from any federal healthcare program
• Strong communication, clinical judgment, documentation, and relationship-development skills

• Board certification or significant experience in hospice and palliative medicine, geriatrics, internal medicine, family medicine, oncology, or another closely related specialty
• Comfortable advising clinicians, educating community physicians, supporting eligibility decisions, participating in interdisciplinary care, and representing hospice professionally within the medical community

This contract position offers the opportunity to provide medical leadership within a hospice program, with specific expectations regarding availability, patient volume, interdisciplinary meetings, physician coverage, and compensation to be discussed during the confidential interview process.
