The Science Learning Center (SLC) is seeking a Student Desk Attendant to serve as the first point of contact for students utilizing SLC services. This role focuses on welcoming students, managing front desk operations, and supporting a structured, professional learning environment
. The desk attendant plays a key role in connecting students to tutoring services and ensuring smooth daily operations.
- Availability between Monday-Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
- 10–20 hours per week
- Combination of daytime and at least one evening shift preferred
- May include coverage during peak times (midterms/finals)
- Provide one-on-one and group tutoring for biology, microbiology, or anatomy and physiology courses.
- Create a welcoming and encouraging space for students to thrive academically.
- Break down complex topics using clear, engaging teaching methods.
- Collaborate with faculty and team members to continuously improve the learning experience.
- Offer constructive feedback to help students overcome challenges and build confidence.
- Greet students and provide a welcoming, professional environment.
- Assist students with SLC check-in procedures (e.g., Starfish or designated system).
- Direct students to appropriate tutoring resources and services.
- Answer general questions about SLC operations, schedules, and services.
- Monitor the front desk area and maintain an organized, professional space.
- Support scheduling and coordination of tutoring sessions as needed.
- Communicate effectively with tutors and SLC staff regarding student needs.
- Assist with basic administrative tasks (sign-in tracking, resource organization, etc.).
- Help maintain a quiet, respectful learning environment.
- Enthusiasm for biology-related courses with a strong understanding of the material.
- Great communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to explain concepts clearly and make learning approachable.
- Organized and reliable, with strong time management abilities.
- Previous tutoring experience is a plus, but not required.
- Commitment to creating a positive learning atmosphere.
- Current student in good academic standing.

- Basic computer skills (email, online systems, data entry).
- Experience in customer service, front desk, or student support roles.
- Familiarity with campus systems (e.g., Starfish, Brightspace).
