The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for an Engineering/Robotics Instructor. Job Code 006, Time Schedule 380 (190 days). Extended time may be required before and/or after the school year for this position, which will be compensated at the hourly extended time rate. Collective Bargaining Unit- AEA. This is a State Teachers Retirement System position.

• Currently hold an Integrated Math or Science license issued by the state of Ohio and eligible to teach students in middle school grade levels.
• Currently hold a Career Technical teaching license issued by the state of Ohio and eligible to teach courses in the Engineering & Science Technologies (F6) pathway.
• Possess an Ohio five‑year professional license or four‑year alternative resident educator license that includes middle school grade levels.
• Candidates without an aligned CTE, Math or Science license must complete the Middle School Validation training with the Ohio Department of Education prior to employment. There is no cost for this training and it consists of approximately 30 hours of self‑paced coursework.
• Candidates without an Ohio teaching license must complete the eligibility process as determined by your level of formal education. The following indicates your current level of formal education and the minimum years of recent employment required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with evidence of at least two years of recent work experience in one of the engineering career fields.
  • Associate’s degree in engineering with evidence of at least three years of recent work experience in one of the engineering career fields.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and evidence of at least five years of recent work experience in one of the engineering career fields.
  • New hires, not currently certified, must be eligible to enroll in a teacher education program leading to a five‑year teaching license.
• In addition to teacher licensure, the applicant will:
  • Obtain and keep current all industry standards certification/credentials or designations required by the state for career technical funding.
  • Meet all district requirements for entry‑year teachers, including Four Year Resident Educator and/or PAR.
  • Complete third‑party curriculum training such as Project Lead The Way (PLTW). The training must be finished during the first year of being assigned to teach an applicable course.

• Current Akron Public Schools employment desirable.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• Five years of work experience in engineering.
• Experience with 3D modeling and 3D printing.
• Experience with basic robotics and programming.

• Work with the Office of College and Career Academies and be responsible for the pathway, recruitment of students, collaborate with community partnerships, market pathway successes, develop course of study, participate in group activities and take part in action research when appropriate.
• Design, organize, and deliver skill‑training opportunities as outlined by the Quality Program Rubric.
• Assist in the development of the curriculum outline, teaching timeline and graded course of study utilizing the appropriate standards for the pathway in accordance with guidelines of the Ohio Department of Education.
• Plan, instruct, and manage required student occupational opportunities through school‑based learning, work‑based learning, and connective activities. Examples include, but are not limited to, classroom instruction, speakers’ bureau, field experiences, shadowing, internships, mentoring, college visits, early placement, advanced training options, and apprenticeships.
• Plan and teach a career cluster class.
• Establish and work closely with an Academy Advisory Board as outlined by the Quality Program Rubric.
• Develop an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP), as mandated by the State of Ohio to maintain proper certification/license.
