Position: Animal Science Instructor 2026-2027 School Year

Animal Science Instructor 2026–2027 School Year

The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for an Animal Science Instructor. Job Code 006. Schedule 380 (190 days). Salary TBD. This is a State Teachers Retirement System position.

Qualifications:

  • Hold a Career Technical teaching license issued by the state of Ohio and eligible to teach courses in the Animal Science & Management (A2) pathway; or
  • Hold a teaching certificate documented by a current CTE‑36; or
  • Be eligible to enroll in a teacher education program leading to a five‑year teaching license if not currently certified.
  • Education and experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in Animal or Veterinary Science with evidence of at least two years of recent work experience in an animal science career field.
    • Associate's degree in Animal or Veterinary Science with evidence of at least three years of recent work experience in an animal science career field.
    • High school diploma or equivalent with evidence of at least five years of recent work experience in an animal science career field.
  • Maintain current industry standards certification/credentials required by the state for career technical funding.
  • Meet all district requirements for entry‑year teachers, including Four‑Year Resident Educator and/or PAR.
  • Willing to attend required third‑party curriculum training.
  • Professional experience: five years as a Veterinary Technician or Veterinarian.
  • Experience with educational pedagogies and Google Apps for Education.
  • Commitment to continuously updating educational and trade skills.
  • Commitment to working with students, professionals, and community members in a multicultural setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, organize, and deliver skill‑training opportunities in collaboration with the Office of College and Career Academies.
  • Assist in developing curriculum outlines, guides, and graded courses of study for the pathway in accordance with Ohio Department of Education standards.
  • Plan, instruct, and manage student occupational opportunities through school‑based learning, work‑based learning, and other experiential activities.
  • Teach a career cluster class and develop an individual professional development plan.
  • Collaborate with community partners, Academy Advisory Board, and local professional development committee to promote student pathways and workforce readiness.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work permits, permissions, training agreements, and employment supervision.
  • Operate laboratory and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Submit required reports, forms, and accounting procedures to the building principal and district offices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the building principal.
