Job Description: The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for an Instructional Specialist, Job Code 006, TS 380. This is a State Teachers Retirement System position, Collective Bargaining Unit AEA. Salary range is TBD. Extended time may be required before and/or after the school year for this position, which would be compensated at the hourly extended time rate.

Qualifications- Required: Valid K‑12 certification/licensure to teach Elementary Education, English, Math, Science, Social Studies, or Special Education in the State of Ohio.
- Experience teaching.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Desired: In-depth knowledge of district-wide Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies Programs including the core curriculum, enrichment strategies, and targeted or intensive intervention strategies.
- Master’s Degree in Education, Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies or related field, or Literacy Endorsement.
- Understanding of the School Improvement Process.
- Knowledge of Ohio’s Revised Learning Standards in ELA and Mathematics, Ohio’s Learning Standards in Science and Social Studies and an ability to share this knowledge with others.
- Familiarity with district and building continuous improvement efforts in closing achievement gaps and value‑added measures and implications.
- Ability to facilitate within a blended learning environment.
- Experience in developing, planning and conducting professional development activities.
- Skill in utilizing technology to support teaching and learning.
- Expertise in planning for intervention and remediation for all students who have not mastered the academic content standards.
- Expectation for all students to meet or exceed Ohio’s Learning standards.
- In‑depth knowledge of the 5‑Step Process.
- Experience in using strategies to differentiate instruction.
- Capacity to teach model lessons using high‑yield instructional strategies in all content areas.
- Understanding of how to use data, including state and local assessment results, to drive decisions at the school and classroom level.
- Experience in developing and using formative assessments to guide instruction.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Engages in Coaching Cycles to model, co‑teach and observe instructional practices in all content areas and conducts pre‑ and post‑visit conferences with teachers to facilitate reflection and growth.
- Works collaboratively with teachers and administration to plan, implement and assess school change initiatives to ensure alignment with intended results and to support the transfer and practice from professional development into action.
- Works with individuals or groups to facilitate discussions around data‑driven instructional decisions.
- Coordinates, plans and facilitates high‑quality professional development.
- Assists PLC Teams with the 5‑Step Process including analyzing assessment data, developing and implementing differentiated instructional strategies and planning for student intervention and enrichment to increase student academic growth.
- Develops interpersonal relationships and trust with fellow colleagues and works collaboratively as an Instructional Specialist.
- Gathers and shares instructional resources to support teachers in impacting student achievement.
- Shares district information and resources with staff to ensure fidelity of instruction in district curriculum adoption(s).
- Collects, analyzes, interprets and uses data to guide the development and implementation of One Plans.
- Participates in ongoing professional development to continually seek to improve professional practice through personal reflection and professional learning activities.
- Utilizes technology to support the development of staff and students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Reports to the building principal and the Director of School Improvement.
