The Akron Board of Education announces an anticipated opening for an Intervention Specialist-Mild to Moderate, I Promise School, Job Code 008, Time Schedule 388 (190 Days), Starting Salary $48,967.10, Collective Bargaining Unit AEA. This is a State Teachers Retirement System position.

The work day for teachers will be from 8:45 a.m.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Required:

* The applicant must have a valid Ohio Intervention Specialist Licensure, Mild/Moderate and/or Moderate to Intensive;

* Commitment to the LJFF I Promise philosophy;

* Effective verbal and written communication skills;

* Participate in staff and curriculum development;

* Use of creative and innovative technology for teaching and learning in the classroom;

* Use data to make decisions regarding curriculum, instruction and assessment;

* Interact with the school, partners and community to enhance student learning;

* Work in teams and participates in professional learning communities.

* Out of state candidates are encouraged to start the process of obtaining an Ohio Teaching License through the Ohio Department of Education upon application.

Desired:

* Work with students in a non-traditional, creative and innovative academic program, designing authentic instruction; e.g.,

* Problem-based learning, project-based learning, inquiry, etc.;

* Successful experience in an urban setting and with various social, cultural and economic student populations;

* Assist all students to meet or exceed 21st century knowledge and skills, including state academic achievement standards;

* Articulate what students should know and be able to do, while working to help students achieve;

* Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate these objectives to students;

* Plan and deliver learning experiences that advance the learning of each individual student and show written evidence of preparation upon request to immediate supervisor;

* Partner with business and community organizations to create authentic learning experiences;

* Develop reasonable expectations of classroom procedures and positive outcomes;

* Attend staff meetings, serve on staff committees and engage in team building activities as required;

* Work closely with the building principal to collaboratively lead the school through a shared decision-making process;

* Design authentic learning experiences for students to learn core knowledge 21st century skills and literacies, through, but not limited to, collaboration, problem-based learning and inquiry;

* Organize and plan for learning based upon knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals; assists in the planning for intervention and remediation in the areas of math, science and literacy for all students who have not mastered the content standards and implement appropriately;

* Develop and implement differentiated instructional strategies for each student's academic growth;

* Use technology to develop student content knowledge and skills so students know how to learn, think critically, solve problems, use information, communicate, innovate, create and collaborate;

* Proficient in using technology as an instructional, management, grading, and parent communication tool;

* Use continuous, authentic and appropriate assessment and evaluation measures that are evidence-based and use them to improve instruction, student learning and for feedback, including reports;

* Be flexible, resourceful and innovative while effectively managing the design and execution of learning experiences, both formal and informal;

* Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations;

* Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning, fosters engagement, self-motivation, student self-direction and positive social interaction while incorporating partners and staff members on an ongoing basis;
