A K-5 elementary teacher in a Tennessee public school is responsible for delivering standards-aligned instruction in core subjects (literacy, math, science, and social studies) while fostering a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Core Responsibilities
  • Instructional Delivery: Plan and implement lessons using evidence-based practices aligned with Tennessee Academic Standards and the Science of Reading
    .
  • Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a highly organized environment conducive to learning and socially appropriate for students aged 5–11.
  • Student Assessment: Administer state-mandated and district assessments to monitor growth and guide interventions.
  • Differentiation: Tailor instruction for diverse learners, including those with IEPs/504s, English Learners (EL), and students needing RTI (Response to Instruction and Intervention) support.
  • Communication: Conduct parent-teacher conferences and provide regular progress reports to families.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution is required; a Master's degree is often preferred.
  • Licensure: A valid Tennessee Teaching License with an appropriate elementary endorsement, such as 499 (K-5).
  • Legal/Safety: Must pass a mandatory criminal background check.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand for long periods, supervise students during active periods (recess/lunch), and occasionally lift light materials (under 15 lbs).

    , ensuring professional conduct and student safety.
  • Continuous Growth: Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), staff development, and mandatory summer training.
