There are 2 open positions. This position may report to either Akron, OH, Connellsville, PA, or Union Beach, NJ.
First Energy takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. In addition, your actual base salary will depend on various factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience.
The estimated pay range for this role in OH, PA, WV, MD is $103,275 - $145,800.
The estimated pay range for this role in NJ is $123,930- $174,960.
Relayand Controls Instructor /Adv Relayand Controls InstructorThis position is in the Regional Workforce Development group and reports to the Supervisor, Relays & Controls Training. The Relay Instructor will provide training to Regional Operations employees.
Theprimaryfocusforthispositionisthetrainingofincumbentandincoming Relay personnel as well as candidates enrolled through the in-house Relay training program.
An employee hired at the Advanced Relay & Controls Instructor level will be expected to perform all of thebelowresponsibilitieswithmoreproficiency, andinamoreindependent manner.
Further,the Advanced Relay Instructorlevelemployeewillbeassignedadditional responsibilities related to those listed above, including, but not limited to:
- Supportingthedesign,development,andimplementationactivitiesofeffectivetrainingmaterials and programs.
- Deliveringtraininginbothformalclassroomsettingsaswellasfieldsettings.
- Coordinatingandmaintainingtrainingfacilities,equipmentandhardware.
- Handlingadministrativedutiesincludingtrainingdocumentation,reportsandattendancerecords.
- Supporting system-widetrainingneedsonanas-needed basis.
- Leadingthedesign,development,andimplementationactivitiesofeffectivetrainingmaterials and programs.
- Mentoringassociatesand/orinstructorsthroughobservation,providingfeedbackandwritten documentation.
- Associatedegreeinarelatedtechnical/electrical/orengineeringdisciplineand6plusyears of related field experience. In lieu of a degree,8+ years of technical knowledge obtained through related experience is required. Related experience would include field operations work in either substation, lines or relay work in a industrial or commercial distribution environment.
- Workforce Development approved Instructor Certificationinthe Relay discipline ORRelay
Tech Senior or Above, & prior experience developing training materials. - Journeyman level work skills with training experience (classroom or on-the-job).
- Demonstratedskillandabilitytoperformattheassociatedistributioninstructorlevelorprevious experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating training programs.
- Previoustechnicalexperience(T&DSkillsinstructorsrequirejourneymanlevelskillsetinthe Relay discipline).
- Prior experience as a Relay instructor(classroom or on-the-job) is desirable.
- Senior tech level skills in the area of relay crafts.
- Must have knowledge of Relay Protective Schemes Practice Manual associated with Relay settings and testing of electro-mechanical and microprocessor Relays; knowledge of the materialsandsafetyregulationsnecessarytoperform
Relayworkandthetoolsandequipment used to perform this work. - Musthaveathoroughknowledgeofbreakers,transformers,voltage regulators,capacitors, reclosers and other equipment functions and operating characteristics.
- Musthaveadvancedknowledgeofelectricaltheoryprincipalsandlawsforalternatinganddirect current.
- Mustbe able to interpret blueprints, drawings, technical manuals and construction standards.
- Musthavetheabilitytointerpretprotectiveschemes,utilizetestequipmentforthesettingof relay characteristics, interpret results, troubleshoot techniques on equipment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
- Usethevariouscomputersystemsavailabletotestrelaysinthefield,alongwithproviding documentation on those devices.
- Demonstratedleadershipskills,customerrelationsskillsalongwithstrongcoachingand mentoring skills are a must.
