Overview
Location: Akron, OH (Hybrid – 3 days in office)
Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Schedule: Hybrid (on-site collaboration required)
Compensation: $130,000–$150,000 base salary
(Exempt/salaried role; additional compensation eligibility may apply for workload demands beyond standard hours)
The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading and executing electrical engineering design efforts for industrial projects. This role involves gathering and analyzing technical data, developing electrical designs, and supporting projects through construction and commissioning phases.
Typical project work includes power distribution, lighting systems, electrical one-line diagrams, load studies, protective relaying, arc flash studies, hazardous area classifications, and equipment specifications. The position requires periodic visits to client facilities and may include hands-on field support.
Responsibilities- Perform electrical engineering calculations and develop detailed design packages
- Lead and coordinate designers and engineers within a project team
- Prepare electrical deliverables including:
- Power and lighting systems
- Electrical one-line drawings
- Electrical load studies
- Protective relaying and short-circuit studies
- Arc flash studies
- Area classifications
- Control schematics and installation details
- Specify electrical equipment such as:
- Switchgear, transformers, MCCs, motors, UPS systems
- Grounding and bonding systems
- Utilize engineering and design software to complete assigned tasks efficiently
- Serve as discipline lead on electrical-only projects by:
- Estimating engineering hours
- Defining scope of work
- Recommending staffing needs
- Reviewing and checking drawings
- Support field activities including:
- Installation reviews
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving
- Coordination with contractors and vendors
- Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, safety standards, and applicable codes
- Promote safe work practices and identify potentially unsafe conditions
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or an EIT who has met the requirements to take the PE and have at hand in a few month
- Strong field experience in industrial environments
- 12–30 years of experience in one or more of the following industries:
- Chemicals
- Petrochemicals
- Polymers
- Utilities
- Energy
- Manufacturing
- Extensive experience with:
- Hazardous Area Classifications (process industries)
- Electrical power distribution systems
- Protective relaying and short-circuit analysis
- Arc flash analysis
- Working knowledge of:
- NEC / NFPA 70
- NFPA 30
- Applicable building and electrical codes
- Proficiency in:
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- AutoCAD (3D preferred)
- Revit
- Easy Power or similar electrical modeling software
- Experience interpreting and developing:
- P&IDs
- PFDs
- Loop diagrams
- Conduit, cable, and equipment schedules
