Shin-Etsu Silicones of America is seeking an Environmental & Regulatory Professional who is passionate about this field. This position is responsible for implementing, maintaining, communicating, and auditing site environmental and regulatory programs to ensure facilities and products comply with regulations as prescribed by city, state, federal, and international agencies.

Duties & Responsibilities: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
  • Partner with plant operations to serve as subject matter expert regarding interpretation of federal, state, and environmental and regulatory concerns.
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with international, federal, state, and local regulators. This may include: OSHA, EPA, FDA, BIS, DOT.
  • Help implement several environmental and regulatory employee training programs. This includes:
    Emergency Action Plan, PPE, Incident Reporting, Hazard Communication, Flammable Storage, Waste, RCRA, IATA, ICAO, DOT, HAZWOPER, among others.
  • Participate, audit, and communicate ISO 14001:2015 at SESA designated facilities.
  • Sustain systems to drive compliance and environmental performance.
  • Coach and counsel all levels of employees in their environmental and regulatory accountabilities.
  • Maintain and control aspects of the SESA Akron Recycling Program.
  • Support other Shin-Etsu Silicones locations in New Jersey and Texas on occasion.
  • Be able to provide environmental and regulatory presentations to all employees at Akron campus.
  • Perform "walk through" audits throughout the campus on a regular basis.
  • Periodically audit permitting and testing throughout the facility.
  • Help manage Safety Data Sheets and GHS labels to meet regulatory standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences or a closely related field is preferred.
  • Experience or exposure in an industrial environment (preferably chemical manufacturing) is strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Basic understanding of environmental and regulatory regulations in an industrial setting, preferably in chemicals.
  • Knowledge of RCRA, and ISO 14001:2015 is a plus.
  • Ability to stay current with and apply regulations.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to take direction and to carry out instructions from the supervisor in an orderly and efficient manner.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others that are not direct subordinates.
  • Ability to build rapport and trust with all the employees, primarily on the manufacturing floor.
  • Ability to lead by example and display a strong work ethic for others to follow.
  • Ability to get employees to buy into programs and policies.
  • Possess strong organization and implementation skills.
  • Capable of proactive approach to identify and eliminate potential problem areas.
  • Ability to work independently and in groups and be self-motivated in both settings.
  • Ability to manage time in an efficient and effective manner.
Work Environment:
  • This position operates all throughout the Akron campus which includes a presence on the manufacturing floor as well as a professional office setting. This position is exclusively on-site.
  • The role routinely uses standard office equipment.
Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to complete walkthroughs of site where walking is required.
  • HAZWOPER field work may be periodically required.
