EHS Environmental Specialist

The EHS Environmental Specialist supports environmental compliance and sustainability performance for LG Chem's ABS Compounding Facility and Customer Solution Center (CSC) in Ravenna, Ohio. The role focuses on air, water, waste, chemical management, and regulatory reporting for both full-scale manufacturing and R&D/pilot-scale activities.

This role reports to the EHS Manager and is a salaried, individual contributor position with no direct supervisory responsibility, with defined authority to ensure compliance with permits and applicable environmental regulations. This position also supports alignment with Corporate and Global EHS management system requirements. In addition to primary role responsibilities, this position is expected to support broader EHS functional areas—including Safety, Environmental, and Industrial Hygiene—as needed to support overall site and department EHS goals and objectives.

Environmental Compliance & Authority

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate environmental requirements.
  • Exercise authority to ensure compliance with site permits, regulatory obligations, and required corrective actions.
  • Support alignment with Corporate and Global EHS Management System requirements.

Air Compliance

  • Support air permitting and compliance activities including:
    • PTIO and/or Title V requirements
    • Operation and monitoring of air control equipment such as Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTOs)
  • Track emissions data, operating parameters, and compliance records.
  • Support agency reporting and permit renewals.

Water, Stormwater & SPCC

  • Support wastewater and stormwater compliance programs, including inspections, sampling, and reporting.
  • Maintain and support Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) requirements and inspections.

Waste & Chemical Management

  • Manage hazardous, non-hazardous, and universal waste programs for production, maintenance, utilities, and CSC laboratories.
  • Coordinate waste profiling, manifests, shipments, and vendor interactions.
  • Maintain chemical inventory and support regulatory reporting (e.g., EPCRA, SARA 311/312, TRI).

CSC & R&D Environmental Support

  • Support environmental reviews for pilot-scale extrusion, compounding, and testing activities.
  • Partner with R&D to evaluate environmental impacts of new materials, formulations, or processes.
  • Ensure environmentally compliant disposal of laboratory and pilot-scale waste streams.

Training & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop, deliver, and coordinate environmental training programs for employees.
  • Conduct classroom-style environmental training and awareness sessions.
  • Support internal audits, regulatory inspections, and corporate EHS reviews.
  • Identify opportunities for waste minimization and environmental risk reduction.
  • Demonstrate ethical leadership and proactive problem-solving in alignment with Jeong-Do Management principles.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Experience / Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of environmental compliance experience in chemical or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Working knowledge of air, water, waste, and chemical regulations.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now, or in the future.

Preferred

  • Experience with PTIO and/or Title V air permitting.
  • Experience with SPCC and TRI reporting.
  • Experience supporting compounding, extrusion, or polymer processing operations.
  • Experience supporting EHS Management Systems or ISO-style frameworks.
  • Professional certification (CHMM, CEP, or similar).

Additional Information

  • Schedule: Primarily day shift; off-shift availability required to support incidents, inspections, or operational needs.
  • Travel: Limited travel may be required.
