This is sub‑professional work in a student work‑study program in conjunction with a college or university baccalaureate co‑op program. An employee in this class supports professional civil engineering, urban planning, architecture, or landscape architecture in one of several areas as part of a coordinated program of employment and instruction with a college or university leading to a degree in engineering, surveying, or architecture.
Responsibilities- Receives training and performs duties in support of professional personnel of the City.
- Collects, compiles, and analyzes data.
- Conducts research and provides assistance with assigned projects.
- Performs quantity calculations to measure materials installed on construction projects.
- Assists in quality control of construction work.
- Assists in preparing construction plans and setting up and operating various surveying instruments.
- Prepares daily reports of construction activities.
- Drives to work sites, meetings, and conferences.
- Performs related work as required.
- Completion of required schooling at an accredited college or university for a co‑op program in civil, structural, mechanical, chemical, industrial, or electrical engineering; construction engineering technology; surveying and mapping technology; landscape architecture; or architecture.
- Possession of a valid Ohio driver’s license.
- Knowledge of basic research methods and techniques.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to think critically and to problem‑solve.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to operate personal computers.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Expected to pass pre‑employment drug screening for illegal drugs, marijuana, and unauthorized use of prescription drugs. Candidates who test positive will not be hired.
