Overview

The Physics Based Modeling division of Goodyear Tire & Rubber seeks a highly motivated Senior Principal Engineer to develop models, methods, and verification of applications in an in‑house massively parallel code. The role will be responsible for driving, maintaining, and supporting the NVH modeling strategy; managing tire performance finite element analysis tools; and participating in applied product and fundamental technology tire engineering projects.

You’ll Do
  • Drive, maintain, and support the NVH modeling strategy.
  • Support finite element code and methods development, focusing on solid mechanics and acoustics for tire performance prediction.
  • Provide training, user support, and debugging assistance for design and performance concepts within the engineering team.
  • Collaborate with teammates to identify new or revised tire performance technologies, codify standards into knowledge manuals, and implement them in the tire performance manual.
  • Participate in the design, development, and industrialization of tire engineering projects that result in new tire products, processes, tools, and technologies.
What We’re Looking For
  • MSc. degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Civil, Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
  • Strong theoretical knowledge in structural dynamics and acoustics.
  • Graduate-level understanding of computational solid mechanics, multiscale methods, computational acoustics, nonlinear finite elements, material models (rubber, shells), contact mechanics, validation testing, and model updating.
  • Experience with numerical simulation tools such as Abaqus, Nastran, or Ansys, with a focus on NVH simulations.
  • Proficiency in development systems and practices:
    Git, IDEs, Agile.
Desired Education & Experience
  • Ph.D. degree in structural dynamics and/or acoustics is a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience as a developer of numerical simulation or multiphysics tools focused on structural dynamics and acoustics.
  • Hands‑on experience with NVH testing and signal processing is a plus.
  • Good knowledge of modern programming languages, such as Python and C++.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong interest in solving practical FEA and simulation problems related to NVH.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and transfer technology to practical application.
  • Experience working in groups on multiple projects within a Linux environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills.
  • Familiarity with additional programming languages, including Bash, Python, and JavaScript.
