Tax Manager, Financial Compliance
As the Manager, SOX Compliance and Tax Accounting this role leads key Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX) initiatives within the Corporate Tax department while overseeing corporate income tax compliance and tax accounting for Canadian operations. The position serves as a strategic partner to Financial Reporting, Accounting, and business unit teams, ensuring accurate tax reporting and strong internal controls. It also collaborates closely with external auditors and advisors on complex tax accounting and audit matters.
In addition, the role supports the Director of Tax Accounting in consolidating and preparing the global tax provision and in driving effective worldwide income tax control processes.
- Oversee corporate income tax compliance and tax accounting for Goodyear Canada, including preparation of tax returns, estimated payments, tax provisions and all related income tax accounts.
- Manage U.S. reporting requirements such as effective tax rate calculations, FIN 48 analysis, and tax expense and cash‑flow forecasting.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and communicate accounting and compliance impacts to management.
- Lead SOX testing for the Corporate Tax department, ensuring complete documentation, identifying control gaps, and overseeing remediation by process owners.
- Summarize testing results and deficiency classifications for management reporting.
- Serve as primary liaison with external auditors during SOX and tax‑related reviews.
- Support the Director of Tax Accounting with global tax provision consolidation and review.
- Prepare monthly and annual effective tax rate calculations and review global tax balance sheet accounts.
- Partner with legal entities and regional Finance teams to maintain a strong global tax control environment.
- Assist the Director of International Tax with transfer pricing documentation and related compliance.
- Provide tax accounting guidance to business units on specific issues and support special projects as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- 6+ years of experience or exposure to:
Federal tax compliance with large multi-national corporation. Tax law at a U.S. Federal (domestic/international), state, Latin America, Asia and Canada level. U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) including deferred tax rules and international tax rules/practices. - Experience working in a team environment.
- Highly-skilled computer literacy (Enterprise Resource Planning [ERP] systems, Microsoft products, etc.).
- Master’s degree in tax, accounting or finance and/or CPA.
- Able to analyze and grasp a situation quickly from different perspectives and create well-reasoned solutions.
- Innately comfortable with complexity and ambiguity.
- Effective communications skills - Able to present ideas and information clearly and persuasively to diverse audience.
- Ability to develop team members through coaching and feedback.
