Overview

A 40‑hour schedule will be determined based on business needs Monday‑Friday between 8 am and 5 pm with one later shift, scheduled until 7 pm. There may be occasional weekend hours. The role is on‑site at one of the following Midwest Region campuses.

The Financial Aid Advisor supports Herzing University’s mission through the administration of financial aid funding for students. The role requires strong customer service and attention to detail. Individuals may work directly with students, providing counseling and assistance on all aspects of the financial aid process, or they may package, process, and award financial aid funds. Financial Advisors receive onboarding support through an on‑the‑job training program and have opportunities for growth through Career Pathways.

Requirements
  • Great customer service skills and experience.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Excellent critical‑thinking skills.
  • Exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience or knowledge of Student Information Systems (Campus Nexus & Regent preferred).
Associate Financial Aid Advisor
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Financial Aid Advisor
  • Title IV administration/VA certifying official preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Compensation

Pay range is determined by qualifications, experience, and circumstances. The hourly range is $20.52–$27.78 (Associate level) or $21.74–$29.41 (Advisor level). A comprehensive benefits package is offered, including a tuition waiver and reimbursement program, health insurance, paid time off, and a retirement savings plan with company match.

Responsibilities
  • Meet with new students to understand funding needs, guide them through FAFSA completion and required documents, and review eligibility for funding options including Federal Title IV funds, scholarships, state funding, and military funds.
  • Use financial aid software to review student documents and eligibility criteria to finalize financial aid awards.
  • Provide gap‑funding options and support students in determining the best option to meet their needs and educational goals.
  • Counsel students on financial literacy and wellness topics to encourage responsible borrowing practices.
  • Manage a student caseload, building relationships and supporting students in resolving all matters related to financial aid funding.
  • Perform regular outreach to students requiring action, including needed documents, loan acceptance, and past‑due balances.
  • Revise financial aid award packages due to updates such as changes in course schedules, approved breaks, eligibility changes, and other factors.
Physical Requirements
  • Remain in a stationary position most of the time.
  • Occasionally move around the work location.
  • Operate office or teaching equipment, including computers, copiers, fax machines, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Use voice and hearing to communicate with students, staff, or colleagues face‑to‑face or over the telephone.
  • Identify, observe, and assess visually or otherwise.
  • Occasionally move, carry, or lift 10 pounds.
