Overview
Medical Assistant at Hometown Urgent Care will support healthcare professionals in clinical and administrative tasks to ensure patient safety, welfare, and comfort. Shift positions are required at our Akron and Barberton Clinics.
Duties- Take patient history and obtain vital signs.
- Perform basic testing or screenings such as: vision, audio, urine drug screens, breath alcohol, EKGs, pulmonary function testing.
- Perform phlebotomy for collection of laboratory samples.
- Accurately complete corresponding paperwork and computer work for lab tests ordered on blood, urine, tissue, and culture samples.
- Able to perform subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular injections and accurately complete paperwork according to policy.
- Perform point‑of‑care testing such as strep, mono, glucose, influenza, urine pregnancy, urinalysis, and blood glucose levels.
- Dispense and document medications and other treatment modalities.
- Ensure sterile technique, instrument cleaning and sterilization, and proper use of the autoclave.
- Schedule and coordinate necessary records for ancillary care for patients.
- Assist providers with exams and testing (pelvic exams, eye irrigations and ear irrigations, I & D's and splinting/ortho‑glass preparation).
- Perform occupational medicine testing such as urine drug screens, breath alcohol testing, audiogram, and DOT physicals.
- Maintain confidentiality with all patient information (HIPAA).
- Ensure equipment is in working order and report malfunctions to manager.
- Log laboratory procedures completed and process related paperwork using computer equipment as directed.
- Responsible for patient call backs, scheduling physician referrals, specialist referrals, pharmacy issues, and patient education.
- Maintain examination rooms, sterilization of equipment, and stock necessary medical supplies.
- Perform duties to ensure good patient flow.
- Registration duties: explain to patients accepted insurances, out‑of‑network options, and pricing; properly collect and record payments; complete registration screen in a timely manner.
- Travel to care centers within the designated region.
- Protect patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal information.
- Clean and stock the site with other team members.
- Train other team members.
- Additional job responsibilities may be assigned.
- 1‑2 years of previous experience in a physician practice or clinic setting (preferred).
- Basic computer skills, including the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Ability to function independently without close supervision and to consistently exercise discretion and the highest level of good clinical and professional judgment.
