Job Summary
The primary function of this position is to oversee and manage the operations of the Human Resources Department. The Human Resources Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with policies, coordination of benefits, compensation, offer letters, promotions, terminations, investigations, and all other human resources related issues that arise within the company. This role requires the ability and desire to work in a fast paced, multi‑tasked environment focused on administration, compliance, analysis, and customer service, with travel to branch office locations.
Responsibilities- Create and send out all offer, promotion and termination letters
- Oversee the applicant tracking system with the Talent Acquisition Specialist and Human Resources Generalist
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and employment advertising
- Drug screen administration
- Prepare HR reports for executive management meetings
- Assist with all training seminars
- Administer FMLA, LOA, STD and LTD
- Administer salary
- Maintain the career fair and outreach spreadsheet for AAP with the HR/Recruiting Coordinator and Generalist
- Manage invoices and timesheets for temporary employees and coordinate with department managers when necessary
- Manage the company’s affirmative action plan
- Oversee volunteer efforts and employee engagement activities
- Visit branch offices when necessary
- Handle all EEOC complaints, terminations and investigations
- Consult on employee benefits as needed
- Oversee tuition reimbursement program
- Implement HR programs through staff, identifying opportunities for improvement and problem resolution
- Oversee and manage the work of reporting HR staff while encouraging their ongoing development
- Conduct a continuing study of all HR policies and procedures to keep management informed of new developments
- Establish and lead standard recruiting and hiring practices necessary to recruit a superior workforce
- Formulate and recommend HR policies and objectives related to employee relations and rights
- Partner with management to communicate HR policies, procedures, programs and laws
- Coach and train managers in effective, ethical, honest, and legal communication with employees
- Monitor and advise managers and supervisors in the progressive discipline system
- Review, guide and approve management recommendations for employment terminations
- Update the employee handbook and ensure compliance with company policies
- Ensure continuous compliance with current employment law
- Attend local community events to represent the company when asked
- High school diploma or GED (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, psychology or a related field (preferred)
- PHR or SPHR certification (preferred)
- 10+ years of HR experience (required)
- 5+ years of HR management experience (required)
- HRIS experience (required)
- FMLA experience (required)
- Benefits administration experience (required)
- Recruitment experience (required)
- Experience in a union environment (preferred)
- Ability to travel locally and out‑of‑state (required)
- Knowledge of federal and multi‑state employment laws (required)
- Understanding of HR best practices and current regulations (required)
- Sound judgment and problem‑solving skills (required)
- Strong presentation, communication and interpersonal skills (required)
- Excellent employee coaching skills (required)
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills, with Excel proficiency (required)
- Knowledge of HRIS systems (required)
- Experience with corporate employment law attorneys (required)
