Overview of position
Denison University Libraries is seeking our next Circulation Supervisor. Apply to help us continue to provide excellent and inclusive services, in alignment with the Libraries’ mission and the University’s strategic plan.
Reporting to the Deputy Director, you will hire, schedule, train, mentor, supervise, and review the performance of a diverse and energetic group of student employees, as well as 4-5 staff FTE. You will manage all Interlibrary Loan (ILL), course reserves, and circulation-related library catalog, Five Colleges of Ohio, and Ohio Link responsibilities. You will supervise daily opening and closing operations for the library, and assist with continuous desk coverage and patron service.
You will lead the department and serve as a library resource for all circulation questions and issues, while collaborating with the Deputy Director to develop departmental policies and workflows that are consistent with best practices and policies.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Associate’s degree in any field
- 1-3 years supervisory experience in a library, or equivalent customer service position
- Ability to lead, supervise, and motivate employees
- Expert-level analytical and critical thinking, written and oral communication skills
- Ability to organize and prioritize the workload of circulation staff
- Expert problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain predictable and regular attendance and work a flexible schedule, including daytime, evening, and weekend hours
- Technical, computer, and software skills
- Demonstrated desire to seek professional growth
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and anti-racism
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in any field
- 4-7 years experience in a library, including familiarity with library systems such as Sierra or Alma, and ILL systems such as Tipasa or World Share
- Experience helping staff manage change
