Our well‑established client is looking for an EHS Specialist at their manufacturing facility. This leadership role will collaborate with all levels of the facility to drive EHS excellence across 3 sites. The travel is local. The ideal candidate would have 3 plus years in a manufacturing setting. This is a boots on the ground leadership role driving the EHS culture and programs.

Our client is looking for a passionate EHS professional that is self driven and can work independently across 3 facilities.

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this position is accountable for developing, organizing, administering, and maintaining the company’s workers’ compensation program whose purpose is to minimize the number and reduce the severity of in‑plant accidents and injuries while maintaining the efficiency of the company and the well‑being of its employees. This position is also responsible for the compliance, training, reporting, and managing of the company’s safety, environmental, and waste programs.

Workers'

Comp
  • Promote across all company and affiliated facilities a culture of employee safety, manage associated costs, provide necessary training and compliance on procedures.
  • Ensure all company facilities are compliant with governmentally mandated health and safety guidelines including OSHA requirements, EPA requirements and others.
  • Review and investigate plant accident reports. Represent company in workers’ compensation hearings as needed.
  • Manage workers’ compensation costs; take necessary steps to keep company in group rating programs.
  • Maintain required workers’ compensation reports.
Safety / OSHA / Environmental
  • Maintain OSHA 300 logs.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of all health and safety standards affecting company property and personnel.
  • Provide management with advice on and solutions to problems affecting the health and safety of company personnel.
  • Advise management of regulations affecting the design, construction and installation of plant facilities and equipment.
  • Recommend new and improved safety equipment.
  • Develop employee‑related safety programs and train employees in safety and accident prevention that comply with OSHA standards.
  • Perform in‑house audits of plant facilities, equipment and recommend action for correction of health and safety deficiencies.
  • Work directly with the plants in resolving any citations issued by local, state, and federal inspectors.
  • Ensure accident reports are turned in timely, completely, and accurately during the shift in which the accident occurs.
  • Act as the Chairman of the Safety Committee at all three facilities, ensure the meetings are conducted regularly.
  • Maintain required OSHA and EPA reporting.
  • Managing the hazardous waste disposal program.
  • Overall cost management of safety programs, compliance, and training.
  • Monthly internal reporting to include company information on workers’ compensation, new work‑related incidents, clean updates, safety, and environmental updates, as well as any issues addressed based on monthly safety walks at each of the facilities. Any ad hoc reporting requested by management.
Salary

$80,000 - $90,000

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree; preferably in Business, Industrial Management, EH&S or related/equivalent field.
  • Minimum of 3 years in safety management in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with workers’ compensation claims, administration, and group rating programs.
  • Requires knowledge of state and federal workers’ compensation as well as OSHA regulations pertinent to the chemical industry.
  • Familiar with state and environmental reporting requirements pertinent for a chemical manufacturing company.
  • Experience with companies ranging in size between $50M to $200M in revenues, with multiple facilities and with employee counts of over 150 employees.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
