The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) is responding to market needs with reliable, redundant, efficient, quickly deployable solutions to achieve near‑term power generation for data centers with Fast Power. B&W has a longstanding legacy in advanced boiler technology, which forms the foundation of its utility scale energy portfolio that is capable of supporting urgent demands.

The Senior Project Manager for Fast Power provides strategic leadership and oversight for a complex energy sector project (> $500M) involving boiler systems, steam generating equipment, and integrated engineering procurement construction (EPC) activities. This role ensures safe, reliable, cost‑effective project delivery while upholding schedule, budget, quality, and contractual commitments.

Technical Execution (Energy, Boilers, Steam Systems)
  • Oversee engineering, procurement, and construction phases involving boilers, steam generating equipment, pressure parts, piping, and related energy process systems.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., ASME, NFPA) and welding and pressure boundary requirements.
  • Resolve complex technical challenges across mechanical, electrical, combustion, instrumentation, and controls work streams.
Project Delivery Oversight
  • Manage project baselines, cash flow, change management, risk mitigation, and interdependencies for the assigned large‑scale capital project.
  • Conduct audits, performance reviews, and readiness assessments throughout project lifecycle.
  • Administer complex contract structures (prime contracts, consortiums, EPC agreements, subcontracts, joint ventures).
  • Identify and mitigate commercial risks including milestones, payment structures, LDs, and change impacts.
  • Oversee project schedules by tracking progress against planned milestones, identifying potential delays or risks, and evaluating downstream impacts on scope, cost, and resources to drive corrective actions.
  • Lead dispute resolution with customers or subcontractors when required.

Collaborate with Supply Chain to ensure competitive sourcing and contract alignment.

  • Champion a proactive safety culture, including structured audits, hazard analysis
  • Oversee project‑based quality programs (ITPs, inspections, NDE, weld mapping, commissioning)
Stakeholder & Customer Engagement
  • Serve as chief point of contact for customer relations, escalated issues, and executive‑level communication.
  • Support pre‑contract activities, including RFP/RFQ responses and cost estimating coordination.

This role follows a hybrid working model, offering the best of both worlds with collaborative time in the B&W Akron, Ohio office combined with the flexibility to work remotely. This approach supports focused work, team connection, and work‑life balance, with the in‑office cadence aligned to the needs of the role and team. Work arrangements are designed to support both the role and the needs of the business and may shift over time.

Fully remote would be considered for the right candidate.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 15+ years of progressive project/program management experience including energy sector or boiler/steam system projects.
  • Strong understanding of boiler systems, steam generation, pressure parts, and industrial energy processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership over multi‑discipline EPC teams and major capital projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical specifications, engineering drawings, and contract language.
  • Experience in risk management, earned value analysis, and advanced scheduling.
  • Familiarity with energy sector regulatory requirements and industry codes (ASME, NFPA, etc.).
  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and decision‑making abilities.
  • Technical aptitude in boilers, steam systems, and energy process environments.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in complex, multi‑stakeholder settings.
  • Professional certifications (PMP, PgMP, PE, etc.).
