Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for cross‑training and operating the Harris Shear, Baler, as well as various pieces of heavy equipment in the yard. The Heavy Equipment Operator will support operations through the operation of various shearing and baling equipment. Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various types of heavy machinery, as well as performing light maintenance.
Must be familiar with and adhere to service requirements, equipment and operator limitations and safe operating procedures at all times.

- Sets up and operates large stationary Harris Shear, Baler, and other pieces of heavy equipment to process scrap metal as defined by company standards.
- Maintain accurate production reports.
- Work with other operators to produce quality material.
- Maintain inventories of the various departments.
- Perform light weight maintenance on various pieces of heavy equipment (i.e. changing table bearings, greasing, etc.).
- Turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs. Be proactive in the maintenance of equipment.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
- Additional duties may be assigned by management.
- High School diploma or GED is preferred.
- Industry experience in scrap, metal preferred.
- At least two (2) year experience being an operator.
- Basic understanding of hydraulic and electric systems.
- Prior experience with hand tools, preferred, but not required.
- Ability to work inside or outside as required.
- Must be safety‑oriented and exhibit safe work habits.
This position will work a Monday – Friday 45+ hour work week. Hours and overtime will be required to meet production and business needs.
