Position: Childrens After Hours Nurse

Summary

Part‑time evening nursing position (3pm‑11pm, 24 hours per week). Requires service every other weekend and every other holiday. The RN will assess and recommend care for pediatric patients according to approved protocols, interact professionally with providers, provide general health information on pediatric topics, relay information about hospital services, and document calls in the computer database.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and direct nursing care with a family‑centered focus for patients within the scope of practice.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of patients across all ages.
  • Perform leadership and professional duties.
  • Maintain patient‑centered care, including scheduling appointments as appropriate.
  • Engage in quality improvement and safety initiatives.
  • Apply evidence‑based practice.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient operation, quality care, and exemplary customer service for pediatric patients.
  • Perform systems‑based practice and informatics tasks.
  • Work with the Akron Children’s Hospital enterprise, as assigned, to meet patient needs with similar knowledge and skills.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Technical Expertise
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to make sound judgments independently.
  • Work well under pressure, prioritizing and completing tasks accurately and timely.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or equivalent, and ability to type 30 WPM.
  • Experience with an electronic medical record (e.g., EPIC) preferred.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required, or to be obtained within five years of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required; additional certifications may be required by department.
  • Valid, active Ohio RN license required;
    Multistate License (MSL) required within 90 days for telenursing services or care outside Ohio.
  • Minimum three (3) years of applicable pediatric experience; pediatric critical care experience preferred.
  • No specified supervisory experience required.
