Position Details

Physician Assistant

  • 36 hours/week
  • Nights 6 p‑6 a
  • Full Time, FTE: 0.9, Status:
    Onsite

Summary: With the supervision of a Physician, the PA‑C provides medical care, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to patients with complex, acute and chronic health conditions. The PA works in a variety of clinical settings, assesses health status, performs physical exams, identifies risk factors, orders and interprets laboratory tests, develops diagnoses and treatment plans, and may prescribe medications as allowed by prescriptive authority.

The PA collaborates with nursing and other health‑care team members and may serve as a clinical preceptor for PA students. Other duties are assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

Inpatient – Provides medical care to patients with complex, acute, critical, and chronic conditions, including delivery of acute care services. Practices with neonatal, pediatric, and adult populations in high‑acuity settings. Participates in quality monitoring through bi‑annual reviews (FPPE and OPPE) in accordance with Joint Commission requirements.

Outpatient – Emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention, and the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health problems. Participates in quality monitoring as above. Identifies patient/family needs for discharge education, equipment, further home care, transportation, or referrals. Writes prescriptions, communicates with primary care physicians, orders appropriate tests, writes orders in the chart, and participates in emergency treatment and triage. Maintains confidentiality and communicates with families using written materials and videos when appropriate.

Assists and performs treatments and procedures for patients on the service and administers medications competently.
